It’s funny how many people trash these turntables and haven’t even used them. Coming from multiple Technics using them since 1988 these pioneers are up to par or actually better as far as torque and wow and flutter. These are not the same as all the other super OEM because the tone arm and platter are recessed like the 1200.. So the feel between these and 1200s is identical, except u notice the platter starts up in half the time as a 1200. These are also better than the Chinese made 1200 MK7 for $300 less. Pioneer did a nice job of developing this and wanted to keep the price reasonable so it’s manufactured by Hanpin. This would easily be over a $1000 table if it were made in Japan or USA. No one is saying throw away your old 1200s for these. But if you are in the market to buy a turntable this is a way better option than buying a questionably used 1200 in my opinion that has more torque, replaceable cables and a warranty. Put one of these head to head with a new 1200 MK7 and you will scratch your head on why the Chinese MK7 is $300 more.

I bought them and love them. I had tech 1200s for 15 years before, and I don’t understand all the hate towards the plx1000. But I agree, mostly people who never touched either got to voice their opinion.

I see this was posted a while back, but I have to say this...If you already own a pair of technics 1200 or 1210 no matter the model keep them you are in good hands. But if you are looking to get a new pair of turntables there are other options out there to consider because if you go to ebay technics (new) prices are from $1,000.00 up to $3,000.00 some new and others old and some crazy sellers have them for even up to $5,000.00 (that's crazy) go to ebay and see it for yourselves.. Guitar Center have the new release of Technics Grand Class SL 1210 GR for 1,699.00 and the SL-1200G sold for $4,000. If you have that kind of money go for it. Remember this units used to sell for around $500.00 or $600 back in the days. However because they discontinued now people wants to charge big time for them. I owned a pair of Technics SL1210 MK5 but if I didn't had them I would not pay over $1,000 for a turntable. At the end of the day go for what works best for you and your budget. The Pioneer PLX-1000 is a Great turntable selling for $699.00, so far there is nothing you can't do on the Pioneer PLX-1000 that you already do on the technics. Technics have already proven the test of time. Let's see if the PLX-1000 can do the same. Only time will tell. Peace my fellow Dj's.

I finally decided to buy a set. My main reason was price. I picked two up for $800. During all my research all I ran into was DJs trashing it and praising reloop or technics and let’s face it, they’re ancient and you never know where they’ve been. This is all over the Facebook DJ pages, KZbin etc. it’s like everyone has read this and copied the gimmick and repeats it, I guarantee you 95% of negative comments have not even owned them. One place that I found some good info was the vinyl pages, the audiophile community. They speak well on this and that was enough for me. I owned 1200s and I can safely say that the plx 1000 is just like one except it’s a lot newer which could be a good thing.

I watched a tear down video floating around, things like the pitch fader and whatever else are soldered directly to the PCB so you will only be able to swap that a couple of times before permanent damage amongst other things and it has a bad feedback issue. For what they are worth they needed to do better.

where did you get the idea that soldering/desoldering causes permanent damage? just give it to somebody who knows how to solder and he won't do any damage to pcb.

The difference is inside and insulation. Pioneer shines in it simplicity and insulation where needed. Lot better sound. Technics lot of the electrics are directly under the platter with minimal insulation in close proximity and the heavy rubber mat inside only does as weight. Also the Pioneer speed is controlled by optical sensor. When you have the two side by side teardown the Pioneer is leaps ahead. Technics is a nightmare cheap comparable to Audio Technica. Pioneer is lot more sensitive with better pickup. Technics this is not possible because lack of insulation. This makes the Pioneer more of an audiophile table also of it sensitivity. There is competition here. Technics was good but Pioneer is a modern take of the classic and lot better.

Thank you sir for your review, it's the one I was looking for. I used to own a pair of technic 1200's but got rid of them years ago as they were old and had issues and I got tired of having them repaired all the time. I am now looking to get a replacement and stumbled upon the plx-1000's and wondered how they compared to the 1200's and see from your review that it would be a great investment. Thanks again and respect!

No one is saying give up your 1200's. The reality is Panasonic isn't making 1200's anymore, and the patent is expired. My guess is they knew there would be improvements made and they would lose the market. The PLX-1000 is a good starting point for Pioneer. I am curious about the feedback loop others seem to be having in high volume situations, but I'm also skeptical of their claims.

I've had that problem with many turntables. The trick to reducing feed back is to set the turntable on a heavy and solid surface. For example, a large granite or marble chopping board (sold in some kitchen stores) works great.

I think the legendary Technics gets an undeserved easy pass over the Pioneer. The Pioneer is weightier, which makes its speed more reliable which makes its pace, rhythm and timing better. Also that apparently his an impact on each note being in tune, if I believe what musicians say. It also gets a thumbs up from me for not having an inbuilt phono amplifier, as I'm told produces electronic noise that interferes with other essential parts of the rest of the turntable, to the overall detriment.

I'm 100 % sure that you are not able to hear the difference between technics original cable and upgraded gold plated cable in any of these turntables. It is just look. In terms of sound quality, feedback and arm pioneer is not even close to old technics. The question is, do you really need superior quality of sound for scratching ?
@djprominent8 жыл бұрын
kopero86 I definitely appreciate the feedback to answer your question a great turntable is absolutely necessary in terms of quality in regards to scratching from everything down to the way the tonearm tracks to the type of Rumble that may produce based on the way the turntable is constructed and how much vibration that turntable might absorb additionally in terms of quality of build quality specifically the Pioneer is equal to or greater than that of an old technique and as I said in the video when it comes to features the Technic turntable has become Antiquated technology. I hope I answered your question thanks again

PLX1000 is made by Hanpin just like Reloop, Stanton, Audio Technica and many more. It's from the same assembly line. Plus, the plx has a huge feedback problem. I'd rather buy a used technics or the Reloop RP 7000 mk2 as it seems the best bang for the buck with the features it offers (in eg. Stanton st150 m2 is the same shit in different casing but they didnt put the torque and brake controls on it probably because they're cheap bastards). Either way, Pioneer is just overpriced chinese crap.
