The RT 909 is my favorite too. It may not be the best reel 2 reel out there but it is my favorite.

Hey Bigg Matt, I’ve always thought that RT 909 was one of the sexiest R2R made. I always wanted one until a Pioneer Repair technician talked me out of it, because of the fluorescent blue lights can no longer be repaired nowadays or if they do it’s pretty pricey. But a man with your skills, that situation doesn’t need to affect your judgment versus a person like me who barely knows which end of a solder iron to grab. OK on to a different subject, I don’t know if this is serendipity or what, but as I was watching this video I was checking out that Pioneer rack you have in the background that you referred to, and I’m considering wanting to build my own rack for my rig, and I was checking yours out and wondering How did he build that? and then a couple minutes later I run across your video showing a close-up of that rack and how you made it, what is really strange as you were referring to someone named Raymond in the video, and that happens to be my name as well, so once again serendipity? 😊 although I do have one question I’m curious how you design the feet on the bottom of that rack and I’m also concerned about How stable is something that tall? You see I’d like to build some kind of rack that I can put on wheels so that I can move the unit in and out a little bit so I can get at all the cables and and put it back in place. I would love to hear your thoughts or the thoughts of the other folks reading these comments. Thank you, Bigg Matt. Keep the wheel spinning folks!

Raymond, those blue lights have lasted well over 40 years perfectly well on most of these units. There are many other things that could go wrong. Don’t let that remote possibility keep you from getting this amazing deck. And eBay always has parts for sale on these.

I agree with Heli. Also, serendipity is a real and beautiful thing.

Lol. Great question, Mark. I'd say anything over 38 RT-909s is excessive...awesome, but excessive:-)

I have one in mint condition. Works great, but I’d like to recap it for longevity. How much for you or a qualified tech to do that ? Thanks.
@5thcomm4 ай бұрын
Hu Heli, I'm not doing recaps at the moment. Check with reeltoreeltech.com He has a listinng of reputable technicians who can perform this service. Personally, I'd wait until your deck has issues before I would get it done.

@@5thcomm Thank you kindly for the reply Matt. If one of the capacitors blows or leaks, could it cause a lot of damage? Have you seen that on these decks? That’s my fear.
@5thcomm4 ай бұрын
@@HeliTube Good question. I've never seen a faulty cap create any electrical hazard on a Pioneer RT-909. A more likely symptom would be degradation in fidelity or slow or non-working motors.
