I have mine being restored right now. This receiver is a beast! Out of all of my receivers the 1010 is by far the best sounding.

Don't rule out a driver transistor going open E-B, will cause this exact symptom, and intermittent is more common than not. At the failure time, the E-B voltage will increase, easily measured. Bad solder would do the same thing at a driver as well, I would suppose. I don't think the A726's would cause this, but I would replace them anyway.
