The sound coming out of this amp is crap dont by it. It has a very muddy and not so clear sound. I had one then sold it and got the Yamaha RX V 385 which is better, clearer sounding amplifier.

This review answered one important question for me. Does it do simple Stereo, and it does. I have a VSX-1021 that I've had for about 15 years, but it's dying (firmware loading issues...probably bad silicon). I've had the old VSX-1021 hooked up to some 50+ year old Advent speakers, does very nicely. Hopefully the VSX-534 will be a good replacement.

You do realise when you set up your speakers that you are supposed to move your microphone to six different listening positions in your room not just leave it dangling in one spot because now your surround effect will be all wrong.

No...just place it in your prefer listening position centered between L and R is best.

Oh dear! I hope 15k people didn't follow this guide. Set the calibration mic in the position you prefer to to listen from. Preferably centered between left and right. Hanging it "as demonstrated" would mean that the mic doesn't hear enough top end hence the end result would be too trebly. Sorry, @scotthallinan5729 ....wrong advice also. Final tip: READ THE MANUAL!
