The younger generation of the football world will never understand the beauty & poise players like Pirlo, Carrick, Kroos, Xabi Alonso (just to name a few) brings to the game. When it comes to the Anchor position (or also known as ‘Regista’ position) It’s not about who is the strongest nor who is the most defensive-minded. It’s about ball retention, ball distribution & pitch awareness all in one. As I’m a 90’s chap, to me personally, Xavi & Pirlo were the greatest ‘Regista’s to ever grace a football pitch, & i’m not discounting any players before them of course. Awesome video as always Piotr ! I have subscribed !

If Pirlo were surrounded by world class players like those surrounded Xavi, he would have achieved everything Xavi would have achieved and more. Robby Baggio was right in 2011 when he was put in charge of the Italian youth technical development. He attempted to change Italian football from the youth on up. He wrote a 500 page book on his plan. He ended up quitting like one or two years later basically because those in charge of Italian football dismissed him. He was a legendary player and football visionary. He was 100 percent correct and damn shame that he quit the game forever. Italy would not have had a dry spell I believe if he had been left in that position
