Weld the root on the top 180 degrees, use the overhead crane and flip the spool piece over, weld the now top half of the rest of the root, fill and cap.

to be honest, Im happy that I quit welding and became truck driver, job I enjoy. While I was welding, everyday was pressure, tough positions, couldn't use right hand because I'm left handed. I still like welding to see, and I know how it works, but feeling stress relieved is priceless

Does procedure not allow to just flip the pipe over after doing the "top half"?

You CAN roll the pipe, but there are some pipe spools you can't roll because they are just too long, too high, or they are already bolted up.

Good Video. An easier way to weld the tee joint is to do the top half than roll it over with over head crane so the bottom in on the top.
