Word of advice: require the pool contractor to subcontract out the heater installation to a qualified and licensed company like Pipe Doctor.

I’m a big fan, but I have to ask you. Why didn’t you and your point of observation verify the 220 versus 110 right from the get-go?

If you had to rewire it, why not terminate the liquid tight correctly and correct the ground wire? since you were the last to touch it, could they blame you for leaving it that way, if someone got hurt, or I guess as long as you tell the customer then you are in the clear? it looks like they could have removed that black grommet to fit the liquid-tight connector if they did not want to drill it out.

Re Bonding - Why is their a concern of electricity traveling from the heater to the pool, if the connections from the heater are all PVC. There is no metal.

I have the same heater new now.. It is doing the same thing. I reverse the polarity and it is still giving the same fault. Any ideas?

That gas line looks like it's made up with a "thread protector" rather than a proper coupling. They have straight threads and aways leak.

Why didn’t the home owner just contact Jandy directly? It’s under warranty, it’s a brand new heater. They could have gotten it taken care of free of charge

NYC fuel gas code. 403.9.3. Tape is allowed. But not at pressure regulator. Would certainly not consider it good practice.

The sound the heater made when firing the last time did not sound healthy. JXIs fail on a regular basis. We went through 2 of them. First time was through warrenty and second time I switched brands. Even if the install is correct the heat exchanger will still fail within a year regardless of water chemistry...

Hey Mikey, of Mikey Pipes Plumbing not easy being cheesy. There should be a number six copper bonding wire going from gas fired equipment to the main electric panel. And the equipment should be a GFI circuit. Again, a Class one, Hazaardous two location? "people, water and electric do not mix well. 42 volt can kill. But again, you are just a dumb plumber. Love you buddy, you be safe out there.

If an actual pool professional installed it, it would have been done properly and to code. Obviously this was not a professional company. As a pool professional we install pumps, filters, heaters, chemical control systems, automation and other equipment per manufacturer recommendations and to code. Telling my industry to stay in my lane and clean pools is offensive.
