That's a sweet setup. I like seeing how you have your camper laid out. My wife and I are on a traveling dirt sprint car team. We have a 30 ft 5th wheel camper that we travel with during the racing season. Thank you for the video. I enjoyed it.

@@DownhillWelder300 you're welcome. I'm looking forward to that video. There's definitely a lot of things that go into living in a camper while on the road traveling. We enjoy it a lot more than staying in a hotel. What surge protector do you use? We use a watch dog surge protector that has Bluetooth so you can monitor everything.

Back in the late 70’s when I was 16 years old I got to work on a pipeline for the summer as my buddies Dad was a big boss. It was hard work but we had so much fun that summer. I thought I was rich making $5 per hour. 😅

For those who are probably having a fit about how far back your camper is, you have plenty of weight counting in front of the axle, all that welding equipment is probably more weight than the tongue weight of that camper!

You’re one of few that have commented and understand the whole thing. Thanks!

Not much difference between this and a large bumper pull travel trailer, weight is still off the back end. Don’t worry about the mule, just load the wagon.
@NTM20092 ай бұрын
Yep lots of weight up front still. Probably enough weight that it's over payload
@KDIGGG2 ай бұрын
@@NTM2009doubtful, these have an 8k lbs payload rating, trailer likely has 2k lbs of tongue weight, leaves 6k roughly left for it to be overloaded. That welder doesn’t even weigh close to that
@NTM20092 ай бұрын
@KDIGGG not even close to 8k payload. With the diesel engine that truck will have ~4800lb payload. Bumper, welder, bed, gear , pin weight, people it will be darn close if not over payload

I started on the pipeline right out of welding school with the dream of having a beautiful rig like you have. Done a lot of Kinder Morgan lines down in Alabama and Georgia. But as time went on I started wanting to get into the equipment side of things and after a lot of bothering for a chance for some seat time I found my passion. I enjoyed the welding side but that cold A/C in the cab mid summer changed my mind lol. I run a utility pipe crew in Charlotte, NC now and home every night. We need more people and channels like this to spotlight the industry and maybe draw in some of the younger generation. I’m 35 now and it’s almost impossible to find young people who have the drive and passion to learn the trades. There is lots of money to be made out here if you stick with it.

@@DownhillWelder300so I’ve come to the conclusion… I think Ford makes the best truck. Very close by GM, and Ram is dead last…. I know all have problems… but let’s be real.. and I’ve learned this cause I own the same truck 2018. And it’s always having problems. I’m meticulous as you are.. and it’s very frustrating. I hope one day after I replace every part on the truck it will go a year with no problem 😂 What’s your thoughts if you were to buy another truck?
@DownhillWelder3002 ай бұрын
I’ll own a GM next time. 100%. I’ve been a GM owner my whole life. My pickup at home is a Silverado. When i was buying this ram i was going of numbers (price) only since it was going to be a work truck. Option for option in 2017 this ram was about 7,000 cheaper than a GM and about 5-6,000 cheaper than a ford. Needless to say i got exactly what i paid for. The bad thing is, i really like the truck but i don’t ever want to go through this again with a vehicle. It’s endless it seems.

When i get customers with trailers i never recommend trailer tires honestly not sure why they even make them they usually last a thousand miles then blow. Instead i sell and all steel load range E or F truck tire that will last nearly forever. Also grand design makes the best trailers money can buy they are built like tanks

You travel with those regulators attached to your bottles?
@DownhillWelder3002 ай бұрын
Around the job site or from the house to the farm yes. Down the interstate or on the weekends, no.

Not much of a dodge guy but damn I love that truck.

Thanks a lot! I’m truly a GM guy at heart, but this was exactly what i wanted when i put it all together. Thanks for the compliment!

I was saying unpin handle, unpin handle. Its not going to latch. Mount your trailer plug up under the bed at rear with opening pointed down. Thats how i had one mounted on old welding rig i bought. Curt 58145 trailer plug has been good for me. 10 years and counting so far
@DownhillWelder3002 ай бұрын
LOL I knew there would be some people. I’m definitely going to try that plug. I have a few trailers i need to change the plugs on. Thanks for the tip.

Will you be recording on the job as well? hope to see those videos if so! Good luck bro, stay safe.
@DownhillWelder3003 ай бұрын
Yes, that’s the plan. I have to work out some details with what is allowed and what isn’t on the job site, but my intent is to cover everything that we do on the job!

Hey you need to pull pin. Dont you grease your hitch on the flat table part ?
@DownhillWelder3002 ай бұрын
I use a poly disk on the hitch. No need for grease then! Highly recommend!

What county are you from, I feel like I have seen this truck before? I’m on Grundy/Will Border
@DownhillWelder3002 ай бұрын
I’m from Clinton county, but i work all over the state. I don’t usually get that far north, but I’ve definitely been through there.
@nathanurick83202 ай бұрын
I trust you when you say it pulls great with the hitch so far back but do you think it lifts the front end up at all?
@DownhillWelder3002 ай бұрын
I’m sure it takes a little weight off the front of the truck, but If i would scale the truck before i put the welder, bottles and leads then hook to the camper it would have more weight on the front than without.
@DownhillWelder3002 ай бұрын
The big bumper helps keep some weight up front too compared to stock.
@bbrcummins1984Ай бұрын
These trucks are designed for the front to raise with a load, just check factory alignment specs and you'll understand

Question from a bumper pull camper person. Why not convert your camper to a gooseneck style hitch rather then fifth wheel? Just curious is all. Safe travels
@DownhillWelder3003 ай бұрын
I had that setup on my last truck but couldn’t on this one for two reasons. 1. I couldn’t find a gooseneck adapter short enough. The camper would ride way too high in the front with the truck being lifted and the ball being higher than a typical factory location. 2. The gooseneck ball is too close to the welding machine. The camper would hit if i turn too sharp. Pulling a regular gooseneck is fine because the neck isn’t as wide as a camper. Thanks for the question! Hope i answered it.

Answered perfect. Makes sense. I always forget about the swing because I don’t ever think of it
@97minitaco2 ай бұрын
Have you considered a Goosebox with an offset ball? I've used those for years. They have the same offset as a fifth wheel. @@DownhillWelder300
