Sweet video! Does the tower controller always include "the next turn" in your departure clearance? Could she have also said, "left cross-wind departure, runway 31R, cleared for takeoff", where you would only turn left cross-wind instead? I'm a student pilot and received a similar clearance on a cross country solo. "Cross-wind departure" initially confused me (thinking they were warning me of an expected cross-wind on my departure, which there was), not that it was my next turn. I figured it out, but was unsure at first. I don't have a lot of time with ATC yet. Always learning. Thanks!
@MyFamilyFlightPlan3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Towered airports will typically want you to provide them with your departure request when you call ground for your taxi clearance. In my case, I wanted a downwind departure to get to where I needed to get to. My airport has two parallel runways and the runway they gave me (13R) for departure has a right downwind. The tower had closed the parallel runway (13L) due to the Twin gear collapse which is why she gave me a special left downwind instead (left turn was more direct with my route of flight). Hope that helps clarify. As you saw in my video, if ever in doubt don’t hesitate to ask. Often the controllers are more than happy to clarify if something is not understood. Best of luck in your training!

@MyFamilyFlightPlan3 жыл бұрын
We are using the original DJI Pocket and mainly has been used for Instagram. I've had mixed experiences with it. In terms of image quality, I would say its better than the GoPros. Out the window, it tries to stay stabilized tilts the horizon in a turn or climb. While a lot bigger compared to the Pocket, I think I will stick with the Canon M50 for making videos moving forward.

Great plane and great video. Very small nit, but I noticed you do something I used to do. You say "Commanche" on every call before the tail numbers, and really you only need to do it once when you first check in and from there on out it just ties up the freq. Again, great vid, very small nit.
@MyFamilyFlightPlan3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I will keep that in mind! NorCal controllers typically always call us by type of plane followed by tail on every call so the response is the same from the pilot side. If the controller calls you by say "25P" then it would be appropriate to respond with just "25P".

Hi Joseh, that is a great video idea! So far no regrets. Definitely a little more expensive to maintain than your typical Cessna. Brought back memories. I owned 6548P for a few years. We used to fly from Schaumburg, IL to Clinton, Iowa for pancake breakfast. I LOVE your panel. When I flew mine, it was in the early 1970's and it was archaic compared to what you have now. I have a question. I had an autopilot which was basically a governor and might keep you on a heading, but did not hold altitude. Does your autopilot hold both altitude and course? Best regards, Dennis Miller Anthem, AZ
@MyFamilyFlightPlan3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dennis, thank you for your comment. The Comanche's are great machines aren't they? I am currently looking at the cost of adding an engine monitor to my panel. That would be a great addition to replace the analog engine gauges. As for the autopilot, I have an STEC 60-2 with GPSS and Altitude hold. What that means is I can currently switch the autopilot between following a heading (bug) or setting it to follow my flight plan on my GTN 650. For altitude I have a few options. I can hold a set altitude and can also ascend and descend based on vertical speed.

@@MyFamilyFlightPlan Wow, things have changed. When I bought my Comanche, I did not have my pilot's license. I bought it when I was getting close because I didn't want to keep renting a plane. There was no such thing as "high performance aircraft" rating - it was single engine. I then needed about 10 hours to be comfortable in the Comanche. As an aside, I found it easier to fly than the Cherokee 140 with the fat wing. I immediately got my instrument rating and flew about 12 hours after that and sold the plane. I was on the road 40+ weeks per year with a young family and realized I did not have the time, or money to stay safe. Certainly the avionics of today would have changed much of that. I do regret not going back to flying, would love to have the Comanche back and use it for the kind of things I see folks doing on You Tube. At 81 years old, I can enjoy watch you younger folks have fun. Best regards, Dennis

What happened to the gear collapsed? Wanted to see footage Click bait!!
@MyFamilyFlightPlan3 жыл бұрын
To be honest, that is all the footage we got and learned about the incident. Looks like the front gear collapsed during landing, everyone made it out safely and the plane was towed back. I have seen it back in service so all good signs. I apologize if I somehow made you click on my video unintentionally. I didn't put anything on the title or thumbnail about the gear collapse so not not sure how that is click bait. Appreciate your view though!

Thank you for pointing this out and I am aware of the regulation however my interpretation is that this is legal under 14 CFR § 91.107(a)(3)(i). My son was under the age of 2 when this video was shot and being held by my wife who was wearing her seat belt. Considering the situation (was close to 100 degrees on this day and the lack of airflow in the back), I decided as PIC that it was best for my son to be up with my wife to avoid further over heating
