This might be nice for a room or something but, beyond that, I can't see it. One thing is, though that alarm seems loud, that type of noise will not go far beyond your walls. I wonder if it could be hooked up to a proper siren.

dnsmithnc Yes, you can pair it to an external siren. I have mine paired via Zwave to an outdoor siren. That way if the alarm goes off the neighborhood is aware I am in need of assistance.

No, as far as I know, none of these cameras can cope with windows (especially double glazed ones).

+Bessie Solorzano Thanks. :) Yes it can be placed like that. But be aware that at night you are probably not going to be able to see out of the window because of the reflection from your inside lights. Even if you buy the infra-red low light model. Hope that helps.

+Bessie Solorzano They recommend not doing that, and Amazon's site also says it won't work well doing it this way (especially for the night vision). If you want an outdoor camera, get the Ring Doorbell's outdoor cam that runs on solar power...its made for that.

Thanks. Er...no actually. The app is strictly mobile. No Windows version as far as I know. The only way you could possibly do that would be to perhaps install something like Andy (www.andyroid.net/) and run the app on your PC from within that.

Greg Roberts This app is not just smartphones. Windows, Apple & Linux computers can all run Androidx86 in a virtual-window. In this virtual window, the app theoretically can work.

Amazing. I use Belkin and thought it was the best. Piper looks better since ir has battery backup incase you need to use at the place away from power source. Thanks for the video.

+karlo ayala The alarm is designed to be triggered by motion or input from one of the wireless sensor options you can buy. You can set it on and off, but no timings can be set.

No the batteries are only for standby emergency. Mains power is the default.

I have recently purchased my Piper and would like to share my experience of using it. Yes, it is a nice looking device, does many things BUT until there is a connection present to Piper's central server from your phone and from your Piper. Piper does not support direct connection from phone and does not support connection Phone->WiFi->Piper If for some reason connection to central server is lost then you can not control your Piper at all. So briefly saying: No connection to server = Piper is dead.

I was not able to use my phone from another location outside my home in order to see what's going on. It has to be on the same home router connection..... I couldn't use my Optimum ID in order to set up the connection... which makes it difficult to view the camera from any location other than my home.

No problem. I read that there were a small percentage of Pipers that were sent out with 1 of 2 glitches...and not connecting remotely and bad Night Vision were the 2. So you may also be experiencing that. But you should be able to view the video feed anywhere...just depends on your router at home allowing it and possibly the settings on the Piper. But start first with Piper and see if they can help. Good luck :)

Eman H You leave the Piper unit on in your home on and then you connect via their servers from anywhere in the world using your phone. Obviously the faster the local network you're using the better the response and video quality. But I've connected from out in a street on 3G quite happily.

you have to set it up to your home router, which is not quite as easy as it appears as mine is taking several attempts to do that and it's still not hooked up. Then, you cannot use your phone from a different location than your home.. in order to see what's actively going on. You have to be home in order to use it to see what's going on wherever the camera is. I think it's a lot of money and big pain in the ass.

+samantha paitakis You should contact Piper or your router company, because that should not be happening. You may have a firewall blocking its ability to do that on the router....but you should be able to view it anywhere when not home.

Actually over a year later I finally called Piper customer service. There is no way to access the unit unless you are home with your phone on the same network with the router nearby. Otherwise you are out of luck not able to access the camera if you are out and about away from home. I called the customer service and the guy says to me he will "email me the setup information". I asked him to send it while I am on the phone with him. Of course he did not send it. I asked him if he could talk me through it while on the phone... there was a long pause and then he hung up on me. This was a huge waste of money, time and the product SUCKS! I'd like to warn others not to invest in this falsely advertised product.
