Jim played a cheeky little fanfare of his own creation at the Pipe Major/Leading Drummer event, sponsored by Pipes|Drums at the National PIping Centre Street Cafe.
As was much trailed over the week, Jim will no longer be competing with a Band after the World Championships 2016.

I first saw Jim, when he was 18 and came down to London with Alex Duthart and Bert Barr from Shotts, to give a drum clinic at the Mount Royal Hotel. They ended the show, on three drum kits. It would have been late 60's I think. Afterwards, there was a ceilidh at Bob Hill's T.A. Centre at 206 Brompton Road.

OK Jim you've inspired me to work in a bit of 'swing ostinato' into my pipe-band drumming. Also your video about pipe band snare drum tuning helped me in the art of proper pipe band snare drum tuning. Great video. I use your KP-2 signature sticks by the way. Swear by them.

WOW! I use some similar sticks for rock drumming - Vic Firth Thomas Laings - which are also white with plain unpainted tips. They're big and fat, but nice and light and superbly balanced. I have also been using Pearl drums since 1980 and have a Free Floating snare drum of my own - only it's a steel shell, and about half the depth of this monster. I wish I could do some of the stuff Mr. Kilpatrick does, but I mostly just pound away like an ape!

Jim is truly amazing. Have been a big fan of his for years, however to compare DCI to Pipe Drumming is like comparing two languages. Both are very different styles of drumming, grip, attenuation, application, feel, rudimental application ... even the sticks are vastly different. You could not play this music (or rather do it justice) with a big fat pair of Ralph Hardimons for example. Both styles are fantastic and require different approaches. To cross one over with the other isn't accurate for either. Love em both., We're all on the same team. 😁

Wait is that a normal 14 inch snare or 15!! My brain can’t figure it out. It looks to be the shape of a 14 it just looks big for some reason. Maybe Jim is just small 😂

Standard size snare. Shot from low angle creates that effect. Either that or Jim has spent too many Saturdays playing in heavy rain and has slightly shrunk after drying out.

"Cheeky little fanfare"? He's promoting Pearl drums, it's part of his contract.
