Highlight of my day Pip. Your misfortune, a bad one indeed, has been fortunate for many of us around the world because you have shown us what a special person you are. The highs, and lows you showed today of the demasting, the demasting aftermath, the tears, laughs, seal talk time, teabag trauma. What an experience. May "the 4 winds blow you safely home" as the song goes ❤

Who else would have the presence of mind, tenacity and grit to start filming and describing their situation almost as soon as their mast had come down? What a star you are Pip! It is good to hear you are going to take the time to check out the rig before the wind strengthens - proper seawomanship! Enjoy the sights and sounds of the Southern Ocean while you can because the next time you pass through you will be too busy racing. 👍💐

I think what is happening here is actually 'real' sailing... As opposed to unobtainable racing and going faster than weather systems! Thankyou pip for your openess and lessons in human spirit, ingenuity and sheer determination as your challenge changed from racing into the reality of the struggles of life wherever people are. Whilst physically you might be alone on the ocean - I think the numbers on the chanel speak for the thousands that are mentally thinking of you, following you and wishing you well in this actual sailing challenge!💪

Pip, we are all very concerned that this next low pressure may be a real dilly. Understandable, you are one of the most experienced sailors in the Vendee Globe and that all precautions are underway for the safety of both your vessel and yourselves, yet the dangers of this horrific situation may consume your strength and sap the energy without notice. Marvelous tutorial on a proper rigging with results after dismasting the vessel.

Pip, I used to work in quality in an automotive company and one of our tools was learning problem solving techniques and applying them to find the root cause. Experts called this an 8-discipline process. Here, in step 2, the problem is known, the mast breaks with a total loss. Step 3 is the interim solution. These require process knowledge of function, but also a big talent for effective improvisation, to come close to the needs and a safe function You are a master of sailing and improvisation. Your smile is back, half the distance to Melbourne after the crash seems to be behind you. Land in sight. Cheer up and I believe (and hope) that you will get a welcome party in Melbourne like the others who will reach France in about 5 weeks. Greetings from Germany.

1st Vendée: rudder 2nd Vendée: rig 3rd Vendée: ?😮 Joking apart, it's these times we see what an incredibly resourceful, knowledgeable and experienced sailor you are. So impressive. Can't tell you how much I look forward to the daily update from the SBTM and how closely I follow the tracker. Today's easterly course made me wonder if there were thoughts of going to Tasmania instead, perhaps to at least get fuel. But perhaps it's more about the wind detection.

7.4 knots top, that’s genuinely impressive from that rig. I reckon that if you get fair wind to hold on the rhumb line you could average 5Knots and make 120Nm in 24hrs, which was a pretty good average day’s passage for us on our last cruiser delivery across the pond. I really hope that you haven’t chucked your used teabags, they can have a second life once dried, two per cup. Keep on keeping on, you’re doing an amazing job of making the best out of a sh^tstorm and a lot more people recognise that than you could possibly imagine. Keep focused, stay safe and eat some bloody food!
