Red Bellied Piranha's don't attack people. They only attack wounded animals
@rayzuke12325 жыл бұрын
piranha swarm's are potentially lethal to many bigger fish and human's but actually they are quit shy and think mostly singleminded instead as a swarm. They swim in swarm's for protection but they do not dare to attack something larger then themselves were they could be picked of. EDIT: 30.8.2020 To clear up some false believes. Piranha's will not attack humans or any other large fish no matter how large the swarm of Piranha's is. The Size of the Swarm has almost no impact on their behavior with the only exception being very small swarms were they get more skittish and more nervous. If you are bleeding it will attract Piranha's but they will not necessary attack and most likely only do a test bite. As long as you show strong reactions like you know... being able to move around in the water and kick the swarm will not bother to attack and will consider you to dangerous and not wounded enough to safely consume. The wound you would need to have in order for the swarm to attack would need to be a already life threatening one like slicing your entire leg open on a sharp rock. There is only one scenario where a swarm of Piranhas will violently attack just like in the movies. This Scenario is Starvation. Only then will Piranhas attack larger healthy creatures. A group of fishers knew this knowledge and starved a swarm of Piranhas on purpose for demonstration of their ability. They threw a living cow into the water and the Piranhas stripped it down to the bones in a matter of horrifying moments. This behavior was the first worldwide record made about Piranhas hence from where they got their reputation. So yes a swarm of Piranha's can strip you down to the bone within a Minute but in 99,998% of all cases the swarm in Question will leave you alone unless you have a life threatening wound.

When I was 11 I actually swam with piranhas in South America. Also caught them. Over the years I had 4 different aquariums with a school of them, the largest being a 120 gallon, with some real beauties. Few things fight together, and as completely, as these stunning marvels of nature. The Red Bellies are incomparable. It's incredible to think that people have flushed these or thrown them into rivers or streams. You don't really want to feed them goldfish, for a variety of reasons, the least of which is not what they do to goldfish. It's likely that every picture you've seen of their teeth has been accurate enough. They look like sharks teeth but mesh like scissors.
