That Spanish cobb was awesome! I collect coins and have almost bought a silver one on eBay...but they fake them in South America a lot. I think the originals were minted in Peru and Bolivia. Cobbs aren't pieces of eight though...that was made from a Spanish 8 Real coin cut into 8 pie shaped pieces for change, each roughly equivalent in silver to a 1 Reale coin. US currency was based on the Spanish and Spanish silver was legal tender alongside our own until the 1830s. The 8 Reale coin had two columns with a scroll wrapped around them on the obverse, they represented the Pillars of Hercules, that is where the 🇺🇸 dollar sign comes from $.. Awesome video!

@justdustino13715 жыл бұрын
@@Sifinds Yeah that's cool...i hope I didn't come off as a know it all. The more i think about those Thames cobbs, the more I think British smugglers brought them to England! Smuggling to the Spanish colonies was a lucrative enterprise because Spain only allowed Spanish merchants and Spanish goods in at inflated prices and the armada was spread thin! There were far more smugglers than pirates and smugglers ended up in the gibbet less often. 😜
@Cate74515 жыл бұрын
JustDustin O' it's all good I enjoyed your history comments. The Spanish had a huge presence in early the early Americas, Lots of crazy stuff going on, from all the fighting and fallout from European Wars it created a lot of lawlessness and dangerous people. People were there just to exploit anything for money. Laws and democracy are good things.
