Technically speaking colonization is an endless war with purging/expelling the natives and settling these "empty" places with colonists Edit: when people mention colonialism it could be more fittingly refered to as settler colonialism

Something that you would have probably liked to know beforehand - there's mapmode now for raiding coasts :) Might be useful knowledge once you get to abolishing slavery as Pirate Republic.

You can have as many as you want. But the event releases you as an OPM. So there's no point unless you form a colonial nation on purpose in order to immediately conquer it as New Providence.
