I cannot believe they put implied rhymes like that at 6.30-6.42 in a proper production. love it.

there was nothing that Jon English didn't know about performing and looking heroic onstage. He combined this with stuntman training and became a fabulous physical comedian as well. Fortunately we have these youtube videos so although he is gone he is stil withus

At 1:26 theres a piece of stick or something on the stage and the guy in the kilt trys to kick it behind him and it bounces back onto the stage so he and the knife dude are both shuffling on it and trying to get it off the stage while still singing and playing their part. It's awesome

This show was done in Australia in 94 and opened in Brisbane, toured around and then returned to Brisbane to be filmed at the lyric theatre for ABC TV it was the highest rating show when screened on Tv a few mths later and broke DVD sales when released.

Saw a performance of this in Melbourne, with June Bronhill, Simon Gallagher and Jon English at the concert hall in 1984. An evening I wont forget for many more years. Also took part in this at school in 1959 !! 1960 I was in the Mikado, perhaps my favourite of all of them.

I've never been clear on whether the pirates really are nobles, or if that was just a lie to get them off the hook. Does seem like they can't be both noblemen and orphans.

@KatellaGate I don't if anybody has responded to your comments but here goes all these months later. Jon English who plays the pirates is in fact a Australian rocker from the 70's and 80's who was nick named o'l Black Eyes. When got older he shifted to a bit of musical theatre for a lark. He was in Australian version of Pirates of Penzance, HMS Pinafore and Mikado.

Have you even seen some of the school productions posted here? Granted they may be working with risers and cardboard, but more than a few are better interpreted than this was. I for one can't seem to sink my teeth into this production. Far too flamboyant, not enough tongue-in-cheek.
