It wasn’t uncommon for sailors to wear black eyeliner back then. It helped absorb some of the glare from the water. Same reason we sometimes see pictures of Egyptians with eyeliner

Pirates of the Caribbean was/is a ride at Disneyland, and they made it into a movie. The ride 1st opened in 1967!

Many freed and escaped slaves became pirates in the Caribbean. They would make their way to one of several places where pirates were known to frequent, and there they would join up with a crew. Blackbeard, for example, frequented the Georgia coast, inland New Hampshire, and several spots along the Atlantic Coast. I bet you didn't learn about this in high school

9:30 They weren't intentionally missing Captain Jack. Quick oversimplified gun explanation for those who may not know. Modern weapons have 'rifling' on the inside of the barrel. 'Rifling is basicaly spiral patterns made into the inside of the barrel that spin the bullet and make it more accurate. Muskets, which are the primary weapons the British use in the movie, don't have rifling. The barrel is completely smooth on the inside, so the bullet doesn't spin and it's not nearly as accurate. And the 'training' back during that time period was basically a group of army men standing and marching shoulder to shoulder in an open field, up to another group of army men standing shoulder to shoulder. They stand in place, point their muskets in the general direction of the enemy, fire and reload as fast as they can, and they keep doing that until either the enemy, or themselves, are dead.

If you like pirates, you should check a series called "black sails". Very underrated show especially about pirates. A good naval movie to look into "master and commander". Sort of based on the real life commander Lord Thomas Cochran. The REAL Cochran was FAR more savage then Russell Crowe played him. Named "The sea wolf" (Napoleon of france gave him that name because of the trouble Cochran gave him) he scourged the seas from the age of 17-70s and has MANY great feats. Him going back for his mascot dog while it was sinking was legendary because the boat was rigged to explode and there were no engines back then. The man was the embodiment of fearless and unmoveable.

6:45 Unfortunately Hollywood has spread misinformation about corsets/stays through this trope. Corsets in history were not supposed to be uncomfortable but rather similar to a bra to provide support and help with posture. Tight lacing was considered immoral/unnecessary. Another unfortunately fact is ghat sometimes costume designers put on corsets/stays wrong sometimes for "the bit" making the actress uncomfortable in the process. There weee also made of different materials. Different classes wore them not just fancy ladies. Okay nerd rant over.
