Jonathan Loh You missed the point of this video. If it wasn’t clear to you from his introduction to the video, it should have been. There are a already countless ride-through videos of every Disney park ride. In fact, for this video, he used someone else’s video. This was specifically made for Dallon’s (sp?) to hear his commentary and thoughts about the ride.

When I get Disney fever, I do the audio re-creations :-) yeah the only one for big thunder mountain has the ride break down, but Nemo and Submarine voyage, along with mine train through nature's wonderland don't break down :-) plus in sure there are more rides re-created with audio, it just needs some imagination

I couldn't agree more with the cave ambience music. That is by far my favorite part of the ride. It is so tropical, calming, it smells of bromine, it's perfect! That is my favorite portion of any ride anywhere. Everytime I went on the ride, I made sure to savor that circular room, and take it all in. Perfection!

That grotto with the "Yo Ho, Yo Ho" track was the basement of the original walkthrough attraction. When it changed to the ride through Walt Disney said "Oh, just put in some caves or Spmething". ( From the official Pirates of the Caribbean guide by Jason Surrell.)

Without naming names, I wish more people would do this: shoot a video respectful of the other Parkgoers' experiences, and then add their comments in post. I can't watch the videos where jackholes are making rather obnoxiously loud comments LIVE, even though they edit their videos before they post them. It gives me anxiety. Kudos for doing it the classy way.

So kind of a weird story: since I grew up near Disneyland and would go several times a year, I had a strong sense-memory of the PotC smell. I moved away and have not been to Disneyland for about 20 years (miss it hugely!!). A few years ago, I saw a complete ride along of PotC for the first time. I swear that, in my mind, I could smell that smell as vividly as if I were on the ride myself. Since then, I’ve watched other “ride alongs”, But I just don’t get that sense anymore. I still remember the smell, but it’s just not as vivid when I watch as it was that first time.

Interesting story about Jean LaFitte regarding theme park attractions: Six Flags Over Georgia used to have a Jean LaFitte Riverboat ride, that was essentially a cross between Pirates of the Caribbean and the Jungle Cruise

I always felt that the ending water fall was the best originally. The two pirates struggling to lift a chest, then a skeleton stabbed in the back by another, then the little green eyes of envy, kind of showing why they don't get out.

Thanks for the video! I hope the harpsichord will be back! The audio is still there and the wall is empty, so hopefully they can repair it and bring it back. I remember the alligator/crocodile was missing from Splash Mountain for a long time, but I think they brought him back eventually. Repairs just take a long time sometimes.

Hopefully Mr. Dallin won't mind me plugging a candle company, but there's a store called Lux Illume that has a scent in their Circa 1955 line that they say smells like the ride. I haven't gotten mine yet so can't confirm, but their Thunder Mountain scent smells like the lift hill, so it might be worth a shot. (The Pirates scent is called We Wants The Redhead)

I and a couple of friends went to Disneyland in the fall or winter of 1967 on a rainy day. Park attendance was very low. Pirates of the Caribbean hadn't been open very long. We were so blown away by the attraction that we kept going on it over and over. We even bought more E tickets. There had never been an attraction like this and on this scale. Even Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, the audio animatronics Lincoln just stood up from a chair on a stage and The Carousel of Progress was a cool stage show. Pirates of the Caribbean was a completely immersive experience! We were also a couple of years away from the opening of the Haunted Mansion. In the video I didn't see the skeleton drinking the wine on the right side of the boat after the skeleton at the wheel in the storm. I hope it's still there. I was SO disappointed in Pirates of the Caribbean in Magic Kingdom, WDW, then I learned that it wasn't one of the original attractions. The people making decisions thought that Central Florida was too close to the Caribbean Sea to be of interest, but guests complained to the point that they decided to put a version in at WDW. Funny how in the Disneyland parking lot they built a park about California.

Thank you for making this video - this was great. I'm from New Jersey, so we've only ever gone to Disney World (I even did the DCP there), and we've never gotten the chance to go to Disneyland yet. I never realized how different the rides were from each other. I have to say that I still like the Disney World queue better - going into the big show building and then winding your way through the tunnels to the boats always felt really cool. Seeing how you start in the bayou and then work your way into the caverns in DL is really neat - they really feel like two completely different rides. And I can't believe how much longer DL's Pirates is! That's crazy! I love all your videos, but this one was especially cool with your overlay! Great job. :)

Europapark Rust has got Pirates in Batavia. There was also a fire scene and a real fire burned the complete ride with the whole park section in 2018 to the ground. So many fans helped to raise donations. Now they restore everything and the ride will be open this summer!! 🏴‍☠️🎉

Re: the soothing/foreboding cave music with the skeleton pirates and the seagull: When the 2003 Pirates movie DVD came out, they had a special feature if you put it in your computer where it was a 360 video of that scene you could just relax while looking at and hearing the music/audio loop, it was super soothing. If you can get a hold of an old copy of the DVD, you can see it yourself!

Thanks so much for your channel. I always enjoy watching. Pirates in particular has always seemed to me, since I was a little kid in the 60s, that it was designed to be like a dream. When you get in the ride and pass the restaurant, it's like you're leaving the waking world and drifting off into a dream. Then you literally "fall" asleep as you drop down the waterfall. The rest is a dream that gets crazier and crazier as the night goes on. Most park rides are designed for thrills, but Walt Disney seemed to remember how valuable dreams are for children. I've always thought that that's why he put "where dreams come true" in the Disney World sign. It's like a code to children that adults have forgotten :)
