I've seen this film a million times - it was part of my childhood and I'm 26 years old right now - and now I realized, "How the hell did Mr Cotton trained the parrot to talk for him, if he is a mute?" so funny! xD

I also used to wonder how he trained the parrot to talk if he’s a mute. I’d say the answer is “Very poorly,” because the parrot can’t even answer a yes or no question. 😁

27 going on 28. I can’t believe this first movie came out when I was 8 years old almost 20 years ago. I’m pretty sure that Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp as Will Turner and Captain Jack Sparrow were my first two screen crushes in the Black Pearl! The scene where Barbossa, his crew, and his pet monkey all reveal themselves to be zombies to Elizabeth is still a very chilling scene!

I despise Zizzle for not releasing a Toy of Mr. Cotton. He was definitely one of the best among the pirates, a great Helmsman for the Pearl and provided great aesthetic for any and all scenes he was in. Goodnight Mr. Bailie, thank you for not going gently into that goodnight.

@zacharisincennes80263 жыл бұрын
Plausibility would depend on what the bird would need to do, but I'm starting to think that parrots could actually be effective service animals for the disabled in real life. Dogs guide the blind, and monkeys help the elderly. So why shouldn't a parrot's intelligence be tapped into to help people?
@IBeforeAExceptAfterK2 жыл бұрын
Probably more trouble than it's worth. Most parrots and other speaking birds don't actually have an understanding of what they're saying. While there are exceptions, they're usually long-term experiments spanning the bird's entire life, and even then you're looking at the intelligence level of a toddler with the emotional maturity of a two year old at best. Certainly nothing that would be able to answer Jack's questions. Most movies drastically overplay how intelligent parrots are.
