My bet is some kind of event related to the Bloodsail Bucaneers. They've been a faction you could interact with since Vanilla WoW and one of their leaders was part of The Uncrowned in Legion. There is mention in their wiki page of them joining a Dread Admiral Nightsquall's crew and being invited to travel to the Dragon Isles to plunder in their name.

Exactly my thoughts. The player is politically/legally only tangentially related to their faction as a sort of paramilitary operative. Our actions already have a sort of plausible deniability aspect, so what if we're offered Azerothian equivalents to a letter of Marque. Our own ship to command, and a warband to operate off it. They'd be Garrison 2: Electric Boogaloo and player housing, and a solution to how we get to new expansion zones all in one.

Xal'atath was so great to have as a companion through Legion. I still use it as my transmog to this day to get the whispers. I unfortunately got rid of my Eye of N'zoth back in BFA, but I am going to level a new priest and try to get it again, and to go through all the Xal'atath story again.

My theory is that Xal’atath is a part of Azeroth. She was a purged portion of her from when the titans showed up. She considers herself a part of the void, as that is all that she is, the void half (1/6th?) of Azeroth.

The skull and crossbones is a pirate themed event that sets up ports around Azeroth, maybe even in Gadgetzhan. That port has been in construction since Cataclysm. The Gadget port and Feralas could be closest port to Khaz Algar. Maybe an island exploration scenarios from your own boat that gives story hints leading to The War Within.

One thing to keep in mind about the Pandaria challenge mode sets is they mostly have animations that trigger with player abilities. Like the DK bone spikes turn blue with certain attacks, that kind of thing. So even though they look a little dated, there’s still something unique about them.

I have multiple sets from the original MoP challenge modes and I think they should come back! They should, however, still require you to get gold and it should be of similar difficulty to back then. This is what I want with ALL challenging content rewards, not just the ones I have or the ones I don't! They should be rare and prestigious because they are difficult to obtain, not because half the current wow population probably wasn't even born when they came out or whatever. You want to talk about evergreen content, this is exactly the sort of thing that would fit well. Bring back old challenge modes, allow you to properly sync Chromie time regardless of level, allow people to run old raids at something resembling their original challenge level, instead of the heavily neutered timewalking versions we have now (or rather in addition to them I suppose). Wow has a wealth of great content AND rewards that it has just abandoned, and it's time to see some of that getting refitted IMO.

I think the pirate flag is for a new "holiday" type event that will involve a masquerade ball on the main floor of a giant airship. This is something they hinted at with the pirate regalias, especially the last one, the air ship captain masked set's description is a lot of fun. It could also be a timestamp for a serie of quests involving the Nightsquall, because it may become relevant in War Within? Or maybe he'll be making his grand exit to go beyond the storms with his pirate armada. Perhaps BOTH of those are even actually events that'll be interlocked. At least for the launch of the masquerade holiday.

This is completely unrelated to anything in the roadmap, but I hope some day they seperate “face” and “head” transmogs slots like they did with left and right shoulders, with most full helmets just hiding whatever is transmogs to the “face”slot, like skirts do to boots or gloves do to bracers. This would elevate transmogs to the fucking moon since so many heads are “hat and mask/glasses” combos, and plenty are just hats or just masks/glasses

27:59 The challenge mode armor sets had unique effects on them that made them stand out (and still do). The order hall armor sets were toned down, recolored versions of the CM sets. They were also lacking any of the interesting effects of their CM versions. For instance, comparing the Druid CM set and the order hall set (the ones I'm most familiar with) the difference is gigantic, to the point they almost look like entirely different sets. Even to this day a CM set will stand out in the crowd. The order hall is the only time they tried repurposing the CM sets in any fashion. If the new event is some sort of challenge mode content, the old sets won't be the reward. They have already shown with the mage tower that bringing back legacy content that offers rewards based on skill doesn't mean the old rewards will be back.

I personally think we will get player housing, but it won't be until after we get warbands. I think the player housing won't be character specific, but will be essentially "warband camps" where all of your playable characters in your warband will hang out, similar to camps in BG3. They can then have lots of different rewards for people to grind as decorations for their camps, and they can also gate new camp backgrounds/areas behind renown (i.e. when you reach max renown with Iskarra Tuskarr, you can set your camp there and it will be in a snowy/icy area with tuskarr huts, when you get centaur renown max you can change the camp to be in the plains, etc.).

Okay two things. Firstly, I think the confidence to tease something big and the "anything could happen" mindset is spot on. I feel like if it weren't a big deal, it would just be on the roadmap without any of the theatrics. Just a regular content announcement to discuss. This is different and they know it, and they know they can afford it, and it shows. I think their success keeping War Within from leaking gave them the freedom to keep more secrets, and I am here for it. I love secrets, and I love theorycrafting! Bring it on! Second, my prediction. I think it's the third neutral mercenary (or more aptly, pirate) faction we have all wanted for decades. Allow me to elaborate upon that concept. My first thought was to try to imagine what type of content is worth it's own announcement. What is worth keeping a secret to gain attention and hype over, but also only big (or small) enough for it's own ".1" update. It wouldn't be a holiday, that would be a regular announcement. I'm not on the boat (pun intended) with Player Housing, but that's mostly due to being burned too many times to be willing to let myself believe in it anymore. I think introducing a third faction that allows you access to all capitols (but maybe none of their faction rewards as a drawback?) would be just the right size for a ".1" content release. I could say so much more about why I think this is it, and possibly I'm just projecting my desires and I'm too jaded to believe in player housing.. but this is my official prediction. ♥

It's obvious they're aware of how much we're itching for a new challenge mode or mage tower. So when Holly responded like that, it hints to me that we're in for something along those lines. Wowhead was tossing around the idea of it being a 'return' of the challenge modes. But Holly? Her hint was implying something more substantial than just a return. To me, this strongly indicates a revamp. I'm fairly confident we're about to witness a reinvented challenge mode, complete with updated armor graphics.

I like the optimism, and I hope y'all are right, but we're dealing with _corporate_ confidence, not _sports_ confidence. Corporate confidence is the kinda thing that thinks expanding storage space on a phone is revolutionary and will change the phone industry. I could easily see _this_ (the roadmap, increased content cadence between xpacs) being the thing they were hyping up. I don't think we're getting player housing as a surprise anytime soon, but I hope we do.

I knew they were saving the troll and draenei heritage armor for 10.2.7, based on the other sets we've got in Dragonflight. The troll set will most likely be based on the Shadow Hunter, going by the trend of some heritage sets being based on Warcraft III units. The draenei set could be anything. The quests will be interesting, though. We haven't had any Darkspear lore since Vol'jin's story in Ardenweald, and even that was confined to the Shadowlands. I don't think the heritage quest will be about Vol'jin, since he's risen beyond Darkspear and Horde politics. He might return for future story with Talanji though, since he's the new Loa of Kings and Queens. I think the Darkspear heritage quest will involve Rokhan and Zekhan, take place on the Echo Isles (at least partly), and involve the Loa. As for the Draenei, we recently got the Eredar customization quest. This could be a continuation. The story could involve Velen sensing the incoming threat from the Void, going back to the prophecy from the Post- Cataclysm draenei intro cinematic. It will take place in the Exodar and parts of the Azuremyst isles, but we could also visit Outland and maybe even make one last trip to Argus. There's so much story potential here.

I think/hope that skull and bones is a prelude into S4 which will work as a longer type of pre-patch/event before it culminates into what is marked as the actual war within pre-patch. Where we start off by chasing off some sketchy pirates and on our little pirate mission we encounter pre-patchy events and hints of Khaz Algar and future events to come. Maybe even some past knots untied as well. So, a longer and more in depth pre-patch leading us into the worldsoul saga. Considering how much they have built this up to be the next big chapter and the past 20 years building towards this it would be nice with a good send-off from the past/welcome to the future of wow.

Skull and cross bones: You're probably right on just some open world event BUT, for my out there speculation. With them on this role of borrowing systems from other games that everyone loves and says about time.... now I have been in this franchise since Warcraft 2, and the Naval combat was a big part of it, at least for me. My strat every round, get my navy up first, get all ocean on lock and attack from the sea to soften em up... anyways, what if we basically get, in World of Warcraft..... Sea of Thieves style mechanics, make it an evergreen feature right, you can sail from gilneas to quelthalas and northrend.... now for war within don't know how well it would be used directly to those zone but still, theres water everywhere... maybe under ground sea? Anyways, you get a customizable player ship just like the solo/duo ship in SoT, you get a party size one, and then a raid size one, and maybe those can be custom too based on the party/raid leaders ship? don't know about that part. By cuztom tho I just mean the skins on the ship. And loot rewards could just be transmog rewards like in SoT where all the weapons are same damage you just get skins for them for the most part. I dunno, just a thought. could also add in pvp and pve stuff, direct it toward the patch story or not, and this could add player housing, you get an instanced island somewhere that you get a hearthstone for and can go there with your ship... thoughts?

I definitely think they are sitting on player housing, but I really can't see it happening before Midnight. Part of that is speculation regarding currently unannounced/unconfirmed content for that expansion, but also because the existing world is mostly wrong for a good PH system. Some places are an exception to this, like Zandalar and Boralus, those places feel large enough to make player housing work.

as someone who works in 3D animation, hair isn't that more "expensive" to make. "animating" it is simply done by the hair simulation physics that's build into most professional software in autodesk maya you just use Xgen interactive grooming to draw hair into your 3D model with a brush (not singular hairs) and in blender it can be done in a few minute if you know what you're doing.

I'd love it if one or both of Xal'Atath or Iridikron have their fingers in 99% of everything that happens in TWW, and they evil villain moustache twirl and teleport away right at the end of the dungeon. I want one of them to make an appearance at the end of the first raid and then be the boss at the end of the next raid like Nighthold. One of them needs to be the Gul'Dan of this xpac.

The roadmap doesn't mean it launches in between the time show, that shows the duration of 11.0. So it's showing it to launch mid-summer with the prepatch starting at the beginning of summer. Which also lines up with the encrypted build to launch timeline for dragonflight as well.

I really don't think pre-patch to launch will be 8 weeks; I am expecting a bigger delay from start of season four until the prepatch, perhaps to the point that it will feel like a mini-draught. Also, I don't think Blizz will launch anything in December after the 10th, so it's more likely 11.0.7 will be a (very) early 2025 event.

I'll be 100% real with you, retail hardcore can work, It just needs certain rules, in the exact same way hardcore classic does. Try and make a fresh character without Exile's Reach, using the nonhardcore auction house, or creating heirlooms. I've actually messed with the idea of hardcore retail as an experiment, and it's harder than you'd expect, following the right restrictions.

So the price for an expac went up in Shadowlands, but because of covid/the legal situation, we only got 3 raids and they cut their losses etc. worked on DF early. A fated season made sense. Why're we getting a fated season now?

Prices didn't go up for df, and inflation means you paid roughly 20% less for it than you did for shadowlands

2023 has been a shit year for me personally, DF has been one of the few things that made me genuinely happy. I know the story beats have been off in spots, but the story itself has been interesting. Iridikron makes a great baddie. Super excited about draenei heritagel and I think the pirate thing is going to be about Dreadsquall or related to those storms mentioned.
