Thanks for the depth and breadth of your examination of the reel. In addition to grease “gumming up the works” what I’ve found with grease on centrifugal brake components, the grease, oil, even excess water (which can be kind of dirty and have increased surface tension) the grease on the movable weights can add weight to the degree that it can make the reel perform inconsistently. Thanks for the thoughts on the line, as well.

I would probably use 15-20lbs braid with it and pair it with a 6-14lbs or 8-16lbs rod. The reason is because these rods will best match the size of lures that this reel can comfortably cast which I would say is between 5-21g

Good question! This sounds like a good topic for a future video cos the answer is not a simple one and definitely not short haha, I'll look into doing a tips and tricks video soon talking about this. Here's a few tips for now. I always look for irregularities along the banks like large rocks sticking out or whether the plants grow into the water. This tells me whether i should bother fishing directly parallel to the bank, the more structure the more likely I will fish the bank, the less structure the less likely. I also always start with top waters if the water is glassy calm, clear and shallow. Then I progress to jerk baits and other midwater lures. Lastly, if nothing else works I go to my soft plastics and finesse fish the entire area, focusing on drop offs or structures. Hope this helps!

Looks sexy, and the clicker spool adjustment for under 80$ is pretty hard to find. But.... so many buts, will this have a shallow spool? I'm looking to upgrade my casting setup, and would like to put together something for small game that will be able to also handle the occasional 100cm pikes lol

+Outlaw BowHunter unfortunately to my knowledge the Phantom doesnt have a shallow spool option so I would not recommend it for ultra light purposes. Piscifun does have 2 reels with light shallow spools, the Premier and the Elite, I can't comment on their true ability yet but I should be able to review the Elite some time late Dec or early Jan, I'm quite confident it will be good for light lures, so stay tuned for that.

I cand cast 4 grams no problem on a worn out seaknight os1200 (orange storm), spooled with mono only however, which is outdated, clumsy and a bit on the heavy side . If I have a rod that I can load up even the non micro bait reels are capable to throw the minimum of 4 grams far enough to be workable on small rivers and streams. It's just that this reel caught my eyes because of the quality to price ratio, for pike and zander fishing with 8cm to 12cm lures and 5g to 12g jigs it would work well I assume

Oh my bad I think I misinterpreted your comment. I thought you were refering to more of the bfs class 1.5-3g type of microbaits. 4g is definitely doable on this reel, my typical casting range for non-bfs is 3.5g to 18g and this reel has handled all of that well so far.

For ultra light game I already have a spinning setup, 0.8-5g 2.1m ultra light rod and a 2000 size spinning reel (slow one 5.2:1) spooled with fluorocarbon coated mono 0.18mm line, that's my chub and european perch setup, that way a pike can cut off and I won't worry for braking my rod. For casting I think the bfs type reels would struggle with big fish, usually those have weak drags as well and I need an extra minimum of 5kg, even that is weak for decent pike, besides the shallow spools that don't hold enough line in case a 1 meter pike decides to gobble some small lures, with a typical deep spool I don't worry about running out of line. I'd love an all purpose casting setup that could handle micro baits and big fish as well, but so far it seems no one has come up with one yet.

I thought all those Chinese reels are a copy paste job and the only difference is when they have cool branding is the love they put on putting those reels together,so if you find another ree or reels that have the same specs probably the spools will fit too

+XanderFishing unfortunately it probably won't because it has a regular spool not a light weight shallow spool. That is identical to the Kastking Assassin.

The kastking Assasin comes with 11+1 bearings and the centrifugal brake system looks different too. But they are pretty simmilar.

I wouldn't say it's identical, but definitely very similar. On that note, something I actually recorded but cut out from the final version of the video was a part where I comment on how alot of these brands, Kastking included, are all just a mishmash of technologies that already exist, and lots of them look identical, I could name a few other brands that have identical reels but that's not the point of the video. I cut that part out cos I didn't want it taken the wrong way or out of context. Take A from brand X, B from brand Y and C from brand Z, put them all into 1 reel. Nothing is original or proprietary here but it isnt necessarily a bad thing to optimize what already exists. All these brands also more than likely get their parts from the same manufacturers too. It's as simple as customizing the color of the paint and resins and printing your logo on the finished product.

I saw this and grabbed my reel that for sure looks identical, only this one has a few upgrades such as the handle and spool, 2014 Gander Mountain branded tournament 100. I liked mine but I need to get a new line pawl(guide) fell out. It has a spec weight of 7.6 oz. and is super low profile. Might get one of these in the future, after I fix this one.

I always find it funny how people buy (not specially talking about you, but many other folks on youtube that have also received free reels from this company) crunchy Made in China reels, and when you tell em to buy a used reel if he/she doesn't have $300 to spend, they're always like "used won't be smooth" etc. You really think some crappy $50 no name brand with non existent quality control will offer a smooth and quality reel? Peeps need to wake up. You can get yourself a used Daiwa DTZ for $100 or even under. A reel that won't be just in a league ahead, no. But a reel that will be in another dimension when compared to garbage from China. You don't have much money to spend? Look at older models from Daiwa/Shimano in used condition. Not garbage from Aliexpress.

SaltF4 actually this piscifun reel is made in the same factory as ardent sharing many of the same parts also for the price it offers alot more than any budget reel from the big companies. Is it a curado hell no but it beats any budget caenan or casitas, only question is durabilty.

SaltF4 id rather use my hand as a reel before a shitty shitmano. Bought 4 curados because i believed the hype. All 4 grinded worse then a 15 year old trying to drive a standard. Shitmano is over priced and from my experience not worth $10 let alone $100 plus. What im saying is just because everyone likes them and talks them up doesnt mean its good stuff. My 13 inception is going on 4 years, longer then anyone i know with over rated shitmanos
