The Jazz were originally in New Orleans, the Lakers were originally in Minneapolis, The Clippers were once known as the Buffalo Braves. The team moved to San Diego and changed the name and eventually moved to Los Angeles. The Atlanta Hawks used to be in St Louis. The Hornets started in Charlotte, moved to New Orleans then they brought a new franchise to Charlotte and called it the Bobcats. The Bobcats got permission to go back to the Hornets name after New Orleans changed their name to the Pelicans. Also the Grizzlies used to be in Vancouver and the Kings used to be in Kansas City. Just in case this happens to come up in any if your videos.

Before the Kings were in Kansas City, they were the Cincinnati Royals (1957-1972), and before that they were the Rochester Royals ( 1945-1957) I was born in ‘66 , so my first professional basketball team I remember watching was the Cincinnati Royals.

The most important part of that video is at the end, when Red says that Pete is this good because of HARD WORK. No matter how badass you think you are, if you are not 1000% dedicated to your craft and put in the long hours of practice.....when you run into someone like Pistol or Bird, you are gonna get embarrassed.

He actually did that move a few times in the NBA where he bounced between his legs and grabbed from the back, then spun the ball back around all while running forward when a defender tried to steal from him. Even Magic Johnson said "where do you think I learned those tricks from?"

Makes one wonder why any coach wouldn't have their team practicing / watching Pistol & Bird ball ethics. If I was a coach, My guys on the floor practicing would be Bird 1 Bird 2 Bird 3 Bird 4 Bird 5. Reality check though. Most people don't have the mental capacity to see into the souls of those they should base their game on. One could imitate, but not know what they're doing.

I watched Pistol at the Superdome play... I'm from New Orleans. He was unreal. He averaged 45 points per game in college...no 3 point line or shot clock.....and in the NBA I saw his 68 point game vs. the Knicks live. You can still find that game.....and review it if you would.....again....no 3 point line. He was a showman......way ahead of his time. Not much tv coverage back then so a lot of people never really saw his greatness. Pistol died at only 40 years old

His father, Press Maravich, started training him almost from the crib. Most of those drills he created himself, and most of the time he spent was voluntary. His father coached him, as the head coach, all the way through high school and college and was an assistant coach for some portion of his pro career. He literally had a ball in his hands all his waking hours. As a matter of fact, he died on a basketball court.

These are drills to develop hand and wrist speed, accuracy, muscle memory and control - and you only get the degree of these qualities he had by relentless practice and hard work, and unless you REALLY love the game most wont do this much work especially at the younger ages. Pete was one of the most focuses athletes and players ever seen.
@yambo59

What youre seeing here is a man with a true love for the game spending hours and hours doing the HARD WORK. He was amazing on the court but what nobody knew at the time until he died was Pete Maravich was born without a left coronary artery to his heart, most people have a left and a right but Pete was born without a left coronary artery, somehow this was never detected during his life and he still played at an amazing level RIP PETE MARAVICH

Pete ( I believe had OCD ) as he relentlessly pursued the anatomical, nervous system limits with a basketball. He came up with these drills out of curiosity as to what the limits were. He was obsessed. He was incredible. No one before him or since could touch the man. In fact if you REALLY want to see how superhuman he was, find the videos he made of all of his drills titled "HOMEWORK BASKETBALL" It will melt your brain. He was not from this planet.

The New Orleans Jazz was the first NBA team in that city. They moved to Utah in 1979 and Pete Maravich was traded to the Boston Celtics were he teamed up with Rookie Larry Bird. This was the first year the NBA implemented the 3 point shot. The Pistol shot 67% from the 3.. Also that was the year both Larry Bird and Magic Johnson came into the league as rookies. Bird and Magic college teams (Michigan State and Indiana State) played against each other in the National College Champion Game which Magic team Michigan State won. I hear so many youtubers ask what is the ABA (American Basketball Association), this was the only league that Players like Dr J, Artis Gilmore (7' 2"), George Gervin (The Iceman) and 30 other players were all stars in college who all came out early and were forced to sign contracts with the ABA. The NBA rules prevented college students from entering their league before their class graduated. In addition the ABA had the 3 line 10 years before the NBA installed it in their league. The two leagues merged in 1976 and accepted 4 ABA teams to the NBA (the Denver Nuggets, the Indiana Pacers, the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Nets ( now the Brooklyn Nets). It's kind of said that you guys didn't do any research prior to posting videos. Anyway i like you guys passion for sports, so feel free to ask questions from your channel. Thanks and Peace Out
