I know! I love when the post the old HD games. The footage is rare online since most copies are peoples SD VHS recordings. Because why not, here’s a history of the NFL in HD. 1998: CBS airs three regular season games (BUF-NYJ, NYJ-BUF,OAK-KC) along with a single AFC Divisional game (JAC-NYJ) and AFCCG in HD. 1999: ABC airs all of games, including MNF, their playoff games, Pro Bowl and Super Bowl 34 in HD, CBS airs the AFCCG in HD. 2000: CBS airs their playoff games and Super Bowl 35 in HD. 2001: No games in HD 2002: ABC airs Super Bowl 37 in HD. 2003: ABC and ESPN air all their games, including MNF, SNF, Wild Card games, and Pro Bowl in HD. (From here-on out, every Disney game, ABC and ESPN is broadcast in HD, so I won’t mention those) CBS airs one game a week in HD (the Gumbel-Simms games), but airs all their Playoff games in HD, including SB38 2004-2006: FOX finally goes HD. They air 5-6 games a week in HD. CBS now airs 3 games a week in HD. From here on out, every playoff game/Super Bowl from every network is in HD. Pro Bowl as well. (Note: in 2006 NBC claims SNF from ESPN, every game is in HD from the get-go, same with TNF on NFLN.) 2007: CBS now airs about 5 games a week in HD, upgrading from only 3. 2008-present: Every game from every network is now in HD. (If you’re curious for the exact games that have HD masters for the 2003-2007 period when only select CBS and FOX games were in HD, the 506 Sports Archive (archive.506sports.com) has a comprehensive list, detonating which games every week were HD in their NFL game by game commentator lists. I really wish NFL Throwback would use the HD masters of more of these games for uploads whenever possible! Especially the 1998/99 CBS/ABC ones and the early 2000s ABC MNF and ESPN SNF ones, as those are impossible to find clips from online!

2004 was a weird year in the NFL. The AFC was significantly better than the NFC this year and bullied them in most of their games against each other. The NFC only had 3 solid teams which were Philly, Atlanta and Green Bay who were the only teams to finish with winning records. This was the game of the week and was also when everyone stamped them as the best team in the league as they had just dominated the Patriots a week before this matchup. These were really great times for me as a 7th grader who woke up at 7:00 every Sunday to prepare for a full day of football because I love it that much. The Fox and CBS crews were gold during these times

Atlanta might have been 11-5 that szn but that had some stinkers like losing 56-10 and giving up 8 rushing tds in that game to the chiefs that ended up being a 7 win team tgat sznand getting shut out 27-0 in week 13 by what ended up being a 5 win bucs team. Packers weren't good either despite the 10-6 record they also had stinkers. Losing 21-10 to the bears, losing at home and giving up damn near 50 points at home to a 5 win titans team in limbo and getting spanked at Philly. IN that game McNabb had 5 td passes in the first half and the score was 35-0 at halftime. GBs defense was horrible that season. So In the nfc in 2004 it was really the eagles, and everyone else while the AFC was better stronger conference. So in a way this 2022 season kind of feels similar to 2004.

What a great year for Steelers football. It had a disappointing ending with the championship game loss but not much was expected of the '04 Steelers before the season started. Ben had the greatest rookie season for a QB in my opinion. I remember when Flacco was a rookie and one of the hosts of the CBS pregame show asked Cowher if Flacco had just had the best rookie year by a QB. Cowher was just like, "Ummm, no." Stupid question. When they were 4-1 and had the next two games against the two teams that were considered to be the best in the game at that time, I never would have thought they'd win them both. I was at the Patriots game the week before this Eagles game and it was amazing. Ben to Plax for a deep TD will be what I remember from that game.

A QBs best friend is a running game and having reliable WRs, like Ward, Burress and Randel EL. Pickett doesn’t have any of that shit right now. A joke of a running game, don’t know what is wrong with Harris but Jerome’s and Vernon’s runs in this clip make me miss those days and also WRs who drop balls, besides Pickens and Muth who have been reliable this year. No way in the world this defensive scheme would really be successful in today’s nfl because offenses and their coordinators have become too innovative and creative with the types of offensive routes being ran today. Dont get me wrong i like this old school type of coaching but we shoulda mixed it up and sent 4 with one blitzing linebacker and play man and zone…pitt gashed us really bad with the run game and intermediate passes…
