Have you ever had an “erl” error? I have the Pro Series from Lowes and will sometimes get an “erl” error in middle of a cook. It’s associated with the not enough or too much pellet in the burn unit. Also, are you planning on doing a mix of charcoal and hard wood pellet? It would mimic smoking with charcoal and wood chunks, interested in seeing results for that.
@WeekendWarriorBBQ5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Mark. I havent had that error code but I looked in my manual real quick and the ER1 code for the 3 series is a loose temperature probe wire. Yeah, I was thinking about mixing the charcoal pellets with some hickory... I'll bet it turns out amazing!
@markflorendo999995 жыл бұрын
The Culinary Cookhouse, “er1” is different than “erl” which is not in the manual. Trying to save you the time and frustration if you ever run into it. An “erl” error occurs when dust gets into the burn pot instead of pellets. I did a test run without the flame tamer and doors open and noticed that sometimes not enough pellets get in the burn pot. Also, when there are enough pellets it is a clean burn, when there are dust mixed then lots of white smoke. Google “erl” error for more info. It seems I don’t get the error when I cook at 225 or 250, but can get it at 275. It may also have something to do with going from 225 to 275, the system may be trying to get to 275 and putting too much pellet to get there and throws the temp off. So it’s confusing, I see the error as both not enough or too much pellet in the burn pot. I hope you don’t encounter this error, but just in case you know now. Fix is to unplug and re-start and monitor with gradual increases in temp.

Great question. The straight 3 hour cook gives it the same level of smokiness as 3-2-1 but they are not going to be fall off the bone tender. Instead they will be juicy with a little more effort to bite it clean off the bone. I’ve cooked ribs both ways and everyone seems to like them no matter how they are cooked.

Nice video on the charcoal pellets. My brother recently purchased the same smoker. He is having a real tough time producing smoke and smoke flavor. He tried a turkey breast and some sausage. Both cooked to temp fine but neither have any smoke flavor at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, Brent. Couple things he can try: Put the meat in as cold as you can... like right out of the refrigerator. Smoke at a lower temperature. When I first got mine I always smoked at 225 which helped season it in faster. The more seasoned it becomes it seems like the smoke has a deeper flavor. Also, make sure the water pan is full. He should also try the charcoal pellets... that made all the difference in the world for me.

The only place I know of that you can get the pit boss brand is Walmart.

Here's a twist, I use the charcoal snake method and put down a large handful pellets on top of the charcoal whatever the flavor.

Nice, Ed! What kind of smoker are you using? Kettle?
@edspencer71215 жыл бұрын
@@WeekendWarriorBBQ I use a "22 Weber kettle, set the charcoal up snake method and a fair amount of pellets on top of the charcoal from the start. Put the lid vent opposite of coals. Watch the smoke happen from start to finish. I commented while the video was playing and you gave a response before it ended. Talk about timing. 👍👍 and subbed your channel.

Cant wait to try these out. I always cook with hardwood lump charcoal and that flavor is what I been missing on my pit boss. Maybe this will get me using my pit boss more often than my Weber grill.

Charcoal pellets what a great idea. The ribs looked to have a good smoke ring. I wonder about mixing the hardwood and charcoal pellets? Were the charcoal pellets about the same price?. I know this was about testing the charcoal pellets. Nicely Done. Thanks for sharing. 😎.

It looks like the charcoal pellets are $8.88 for a 20 pound bag at Walmart. I have started mixing them with regular pellets and I like it... Im doing a 50/50 mix right now.
