You have to keep the pellet hopper lid shut otherwise air and flame can draft up the pellet auger and burn into the hopper itself. This was a big problem for pellet stoves heating houses as well
@ScottysBackYardBBQ Жыл бұрын
The lid was shut when the auger fire started. But that dies make sense.

I've had issues with back burn if I've forgotten to close the pellet hopper lid tightly. It's then sucking air drawing some flame backwards into the auger. ??????????

o wow. i never thought of that. some times i leave the hopper lid open. thanks

Have a Lexington back burns every time I use it cleaned every time before use. One thing I noticed is that the igniter moves and was pushed in all the way like the one in the video. The igniter on all the others I’ve looked at stick out further
@ScottysBackYardBBQ Жыл бұрын
Ok thanks I check it out
@saltydawg8988 Жыл бұрын
You know what Scotty, that would make sense because if the igniter is too far in, it can heat the metal up on the inside where it's not supposed to. Been watching you for the last week while waiting for my Lexington Onyx to come in, and it just arrived a couple hours ago. Thanks for all the tips!

Do you vacuum the pot each cook? Makes me nervous when I think about running the pit overnight while asleep!!

i completely cleaned it out before i started the cook.

@@ScottysBackYardBBQ I usually vacuum after each cook but it must have been pellets since your pot was empty.

I guess you can have some peace of mind knowing it didn't recreate for the video. I never liked that auger design when the pellets feed right to the firepot. Kind of why I like the SmokeFire, it has that slide the pellets ride down preventing an auger fire.

@@theilliniguy I got mine for like $900 when Weber gave a $200 off and my local Ace gave it to me for $899 for the EX6. This is my third year with it and glad I took the chance on it. Hopefully there will be deals again so more people can experience it.

Good thing you didn't get it to recreate the back burn. That could have been a disaster if you were in town while it was back burning. Good that you found the reason was bad pellets.

Coke a pork butt on mine for 12 hours with no problems. It was clean and I store my pellets in two hard plastic Craftsman storage container from Lowe’s. Each container holds 20 pounds. That’s good advice on what to do. Thanks!! 👍😎👍

Hey! I have a Pit Boss Lexington pellet grill and I was wondering why after it's up to my desired temp the side where the pellets go start smoking?? I just had this to happen to me today
@ScottysBackYardBBQ Жыл бұрын
Could be several things. Fire pot dirty. Bad pellets. Going from very high heat .down to low heat to fast Leaving the hopper lid open while it running.

Okay thanks! I had just cleaned it before I used it! And it I didn't adjust the temp up and down! When it got to the desired temp I put my meat on and after a while I noticed the smoke coming from where the pellets go in so idk

I’ve had 2. But what I do is if enough pellets are there. I shop vac out 90% of them. An turn up the temp an just let the auger run the rest out to burn. An toss the pellets if they were smoked out bad that I feel like they were ruined
