I feel like Tortoise is a band you're almost required to love if you really love Music, deep down in your Soul. I mean, they're undeniable as individual Musicians, but more importantly, how they come together in the Present Moment each time they play. You can hear and feel how they're actually listening to each other and adjusting live in the moment, as a fluid unit. There's a gentle grace to how this band plays amongst each other. It's beautiful ❤

What an absolute gift. This album came into my life in '99 or so and fast became a part of who I am. It's an album I pull out once a year or so and listen to in its entirety. I introduced it to my wife a few years ago and the same thing happened to her. Last night, I was working on my computer upstairs and heard her listening to TNT. I immediately came down just to give her a big thumbs up, only to find that she was watching a live version of it on KZbin on our big flat screen TV. I'd never seen them live. I stopped what I was doing and sat on the couch and watched the whole show with her. So glad this exists. Going to share it with everyone I know who love good music.

This album and performance has a special meaning in my life. I was studying in Ann Arbor at UM in 1998 and immediately loved this album when it was released. Many years down the road, I was in Lake Orta, Italy in 2012 celebrating the defense of my PhD and my peers had a long conversation about the unspoken language of live musical collaboration that represents itself in TNT . This album and performance is epic. It Sums up a very specific moment of creative collaboration that is beautiful and rare. What a gem.

Just on my first listen of this up to 'I Set My Face To The Hillside'. As much as I love TNT, Swung From The Gutters, In Sarah, etc. etc., this performance of 'I Set My Face To The Hillside' from the opening notes had me feeling a rush of warmth and tears damn near coming from my eyes. From the opening sampling of the sounds of the children, Jeff Parker's fantastic opening guitar notes, John Herndon shaker playing, McComb's perfect bass line, and WHAM THE FUCKING VIOLIN. Usually I prefer when an artist is performing an album in full to pretty much play it straight as it was, but all of the flourishes so far of violin, horn, and trombone parts have breathed even more beautiful life into this timeless album. I can tell this is going to live long on my playlist.

I was so lucky to have been at this show as it was amazing. And I was floored to see this video come out a month later. Filming and audio are top-notch. The audio quality and mix are fantastic. Great job, Pitchfork! I hope they somehow find a way to tour again. This was the 2nd to last time they performed (last concert was in Japan). It was also a treat to see them with some additional musicians. They all did a fantastic job, especially James, who played so many key parts. I've seen them live 7 times (first time in 2006) and the only other show that was on this level was the ESS Gala at Constellation the year in 2017. That too was a "sit down, shut up, and listen" type of affair. All the other shows were at smaller, noisy, rowdier clubs. This was special. And I'm pleased it was captured on film.
