Ty Stofflet passed away on January 23rd 2021. During the 70's and early 80's he was generally considered the best Fastpitch Pitcher. I saw him pitch in the 1977 ASA Championship against Aurora. He had a confident presence on the rubber. He generated a lot of velocity on his rise ball despite the fact that he wasn't a large man per se. He had very long arms and long legs and used those to generate a lot of "whip". RIP Mr. Stofflet.

Glad to say I had the privilege of watching this GREAT softball pitcher on the Eastern Shore of Maryland back in the day! Watched him pitch from the backstop throwing in at least 100 + miles an hour from 46 feet! Found myself ducking behind the backstop! Thanks for sharing this story brings back great memories for me!

I pitched against him in Allentown during a memorial day tournament in 1991. We won 2-1. He was past his prime but still a great competitor. He was also probably one of the best hitters in the lineup that day. As a comment made rukusband stated he was pitching into his 50's. Ty was 52 when we faced him. A great gentleman and competitor. Probably the best men's fastpitch pitcher of all time.

I played against Mr Stofflet in the late 70's. Stadium in Reading was packed Best i ever faced by a long shot. He walked me...then struck me out twice. I believe he also got the winning hit in that 20 inning game in the World tournament.

We saw him at the 1979 ASA Nationals at Midland Michigan, he played for York Barbell of Reading Pa, lost to eventual champion McArdle Pontiac/Cadillac of Midland. Saw some great games and great players hard to believe it was 53 years ago.

My dad actually played against this guy when they went to nationals in the late seventies. He was a good pitcher but said Stoflett was a freak of nature and no one could touch him.

How did Davey Lopez make the Allstar game in 1981? He batted .205 with 5 HR. In 1980 he made Allstar team batting .251 and 10 HR. He played 2nd base and Outfield no way those were best numbers in '80 & '81 anyone know how he made AS squad with those numbers?

Dumb question: Was he pitching from 46 feet away? A 100 MPH fastball would be almost impossible to hit.WOW!

@@patrickmorgan4006 Geez! I batted against an old Iron Mike pitching machine years ago at 60 feet 6 inches away. I think the pitches went maybe 80 MPH,...maybe. You would see the ball rise and quickly fall into the strike zone and even that was difficult to hit. I can't imagine a 100 MPH fastball from 46 feet.

Horse feathers oh by the way feigner pitched with a Debeers lighter than a normal ball if a regular pitchers used it he would develop an injury when usex too much . I still have one from touring with eddie in 1993 as the liaison between him and the promotor .

He was well past his prime here, close to 40. Most likely throwing low 80's like u said. High level international games are high 80;s. Any faster and the ball has no time for any movement, unless a heavy head wind fully against . The best pitchers today can push mid to high 90's., never do it though for above reason. Also these balls are 2 ounces heavier than baseballs.

The challenge was to hit a fair ball. It didn't have to be one that would allow the batter to reach base.
