Subscribe for more Pitch Meetings: / @pitchmeetings
Moana was a pretty big hit when it came out in 2016, but it became even more popular when it hit Disney Plus, becoming the most streamed movie on their platform. Naturally Disney wanted more- this time in the form of a streaming series. Wait, no- a movie! Yeah, a movie.
Moana 2 does raise some questions. Like why does this feel like it should have been a TV show? Why are there so many new characters that don’t do anything? What’s up with that bat lady just suddenly not being evil? What are Moana’s powers now?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside Ryan George’s Pitch Meeting for Moana 2!

Out of all the things to make fun of, why are they choosing this? Would you really choose a TV show over a movie? I thought the movie and some of its songs were pretty good, I just wish they got Lin Manuel Miranda

It’s like we want to support good ideas so they see that they’re good and make more but then instead of that they just go “aha, money!” and remake the same ideas over and over because they can’t figure out why it worked the first time and transfer that to new stories.
@kipolem53

But didn't How To Train Your Dragon feel complete to people? Kung Fu Panda? Wreck-It Ralph? I'm not sure that argument fits so snugly with animated films. Especially since now studios release stuff like Dune, Across/Beyond the Spiderverse, and Wicked where they PURPOSEFULLY only release half a story for the first movie, but like...that is not hiow it always was, this is super recent, yes Back to the Future and LOTR did something to that effect but A) Not animated and B) That is a trilogy so not like, "Oh this is actually one movie but we cut it in half to make more money." I guess Harry Potter actually started that but that was because Goblet of Fire had to cut so much out.

You should do some more pitch meetings for some of the real old classics. Like Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, From here to Eternity, or Ben Hur. Or any of the many great movies made before 1970.

He said once before why he doesn't usually do Pitch Meetings for older movies. You might notice that every video ends with a headline from a Screen Rant article. It's about marketability as well. Making pitch meetings of classics which aren't even talked about anymore, isn't going to generate much traction and views. Not to mention the question of his personal interest in those old movies, because being forced to sit through content you don't even like (hypothetically speaking) is always going to be a really rough experience.

in the post credit scene we see Nalo (was that his name? the angry god) talking to the bat lady and accusing her of helping Moana and Maui. then the giant crab from the first movie shows up and tries to sing a new song. so it's really just bait for the next installment.

Yeah but as people pointed out Moana 2 literally IS a Disney Plus show forced to be a movie because of how horrid the last major Disney movies have been doing and them wanting another success. Like say what you want about Despicable Me 4 but it was MEANT to be a film and made as a film... you can argue how much it works as one but it didn't start out as a show unlike Moana 2.

Disney has spent so much of its time trying to teach our kids not to call bad guys "bad guys". It's astounding. Also, "I thought Moana was friends with the ocean" sums up this entire world perfectly. I couldn't enjoy the first movie because of that. Either she's friends with literally half of the planet and it's super easy for her, or you make it hard for her but then don't have her befriend half the planet itself....
