Unpopular opinion: because of targeting and unnecessary roughness calls, defensive players are basically forced to not tackle a QB going in for a slide. Either ban fake slides, or allow a defensive play to engage a sliding QB with the assumption it could be a fake slide.

Fake give up plays should be a 15 yard penalty, fake slide, fake spike, fake kneel. Defense is told to stop because it's all to avoid injury, yet offense exploits them all.

Because players get ejected weekly for “targeting” a QB after he initiates a slide. In the ACC they eject defenders for that all the time. So the defenders try to avoid a targeting based on how the refs throw flags, and the QB abuses it with a move like this. I don’t think it should be a flag, but neither should hitting a QB as he initiates a slide.

Qb even admitted post-game interview that when he initiated the fake slide, he noticed the defenders were letting up by their body language so he kept running. If there was no slide rule protecting the qb, 6 would've took down the qb. But the rules protecting sliding quarterbacks make make this a different thing. A fake spike or fake field goal is a designed play. This is just taking advantage of the fact that quarterbacks are protected by their ability to slide. If I’m the coach I’m telling my players to rock his shit next time and if a flag comes out I’m protesting

This is what you get when specific offensive players get preferential treatment on the field. Same goes for ball carriers who constantly lower their heads and target defensive players with the crowns of their helmet. Same goes for any offensive player that tip-toes on the sideline to get a few extra yards because he knows he’ll draw a flag if he gets hit. I know I’m in the minority, but I can’t enjoy football lately knowing that offensive players have such a decided advantage. This is why “two hand touch Tom” (Brady) isn’t the goat to me-he’s a complete benefactor of the last ten years of not having to worry about his safety.

He knew he got away with a rule that is there to protect him. Get rid of the slide and let everyone play football or make it a 15 yard penalty on the qb for exploiting a rule meant to protect him

The rule is as soon as a player initiates a slide he is giving himself up and can’t be hit. He should have been ruled down right there. That coach should be telling his D to blow him up every time he runs, slide or not.

As if there are not already enough rules to protect the QB that disadvantage defensive players, now the fake slide will become a thing. At some point, coaches are going to have to tell the defense to tear their heads off as soon as they leave the pocket regardless of perceived intent.
