Pitztal early season powder - fall into a glacier crevasse

Skiing early season powder in Pitztal glacier (highest ski resort in Austria) could be fantastic and dangerous at the same time. While skiing off piste we came across snowboarder from Holland that feel into glacier crevasse (about 5 meter deep). He was seemingly unharmed (landed on his feet) and rescued by a helicopter within 15 minutes, after which we seen him walking to a snowmobile without any assistance (very lucky guy). Otherwise amazing powder in October!

So, what happened to the guy in the crevasse? Did you just leave him and go and ski powder?

Yeah 😅 left him till the spring...

All in description... local safe and rescue came in 5 mins and 10 mins he was fished out by a heli 👌

On the glacier I drive never outside. I like skiing in the powder, but never when the situation is to dangerous. I have some to prove it here.

Die Vollkaskomentalität am Gletscher... Irgendwie ist den Personen nicht ganz klar, wo sie sich befinden. Ich finde es traurig, daß sich soviele Menschen gar nicht mit dem Thema Bergungstechnik auseinandersetzen wollen. Ich habe den Eindruck, die Touristen sehen einen Hubschraubereinsatz wie eine Pannenhilfe im Straßenverkehr.

Less tourists but more locals, I’d say on a good day crowd is the same size (just local)
