This video had exactly the information I was looking for...I'm almost exactly Chris' size (5'10½" with 34" inseam) and usually ride the same size he does. I was agonizing over ordering a size medium T429v3 because the reach was closer to the midpoint between my 429T (L) and Firebird (M). When Chris described what terrain he prefers riding the medium on, I was glad I ordered that size as that is the majority of the riding here on the side of Mt. Tam in Marin. Excellent technical interview.

If you are looking for one bike that can take on aggressive trail to light enduro-type terrain, while also being comfortable pedaling all day, the Trail 429 with the Enduro suspension spec is hard to beat. And it will be a noticeable boost in descending confidence with the progressive geometry.

The 26.5lbs is the correct weight according to our scale. There is always some variability in weight from frame set to frame set, and the same applies to the parts bolted to it.

Question: If a rider is in between size medium and large and chooses to size up; what stem length would be recommended? Also, what stem length comes with the bike?
@terrybest37003 жыл бұрын
55mm comes with both the new size L and M. Same thing is happening for me, Steve. Been expecting a 'v2' L which I fit perfectly on. Now I'm not sure which size to go with! Right in between L and M for me too.
@pivotcyclesusa3 жыл бұрын
Steve - It truly depends on the dimensions of the rider and their riding style. Depending in the rider's proportions, sizing up and using a super short stem could work, but it's not a clean cut solution for every rider. We recommend that you visit your local Pivot Dealer to throw a leg over one, send an email to info@pivotcycles.com, or jump onto a live chat with our CSR team to get immediate feedback on sizing.

Why is it that this trail 429 comes with the reynolds wheels but the switchblade doesn't?
@pivotcyclesusa3 жыл бұрын
Partially that is due to the fact we liked the performance of the DT Swiss XMC1501 carbon wheels under the Switchblade chassis, and partially due to supply issues due to COVID-19 at the time we launched the Switchblade. The Reynolds Blacklabel 309/289 wheels are crazy light for a trail wheelset, which is why we spec'd them on the Trail, but might not be the best suited for a dedicated, hard-use, enduro/all-mountain bike like the Switchblade.

After watching plenty of reviews on this bike I am still a bit undecided on size. I am 5'-10 1/2" tall at 180lbs riding weight. I am leaning towards the medium although all of my other bikes have been size large. Any thoughts on the size I should choose. Thank you.
@pivotcyclesusa3 жыл бұрын
We'd suggest going to our website and jumping on a chat with our Customer Service Team. Determining fit can depend on alot of factors, but ultimately it is your preference on what you want to ride. If you prefer a longer, more stable ride, you may consider sizing up. But if you prefer a snappy, quicker handling bike, sizing down might be a better option for you.
@Geno_6713 жыл бұрын
@@pivotcyclesusa would shortening the stem to a 40 give the same snappiness as being on a meduim?
@pivotcyclesusa3 жыл бұрын
@@Geno_671 in general, a shorter stem will make your bike steering a little faster. However, if you go too short, it could affect other aspects of your fit, such as potentially change your weight distribution over the bike.

What is a v2 and v3? I have asked many people for this information but no-one knows, I am 5'4" with an inseam of 32" and a short torso, would l ride a small or medium size bike?
@pivotcyclesusa2 жыл бұрын
V2 is referring to the previous generation of Trail 429. It had a more horizontal top tube mounted shock and was phased out once we introduced the Trail 429 V3 in Feb of 2021, which is discussed here. Regarding sizing, at your height and proportions, we would recommend looking at a Small or even an X-Small. You could go either way depending on how you fit on each size.

Carla, we are stoked to hear you want this bike and we want to see you and your friend on one. The challenge we and many other companies in the bike industry are facing is the unprecedented strain on the global supply chain affecting all of our component vendors, combined with the extremely high demand for all things bikes right now. We are doing our best to keep our shops informed of lead times and related changes. Our best suggestion is if you are certain you want a Trail, place your order with your local Pivot dealer so it reserves your fulfillment slot and be patient. We are fulfilling orders as fast as possible on a "first in, first out" basis. If you have any further questions, you can always call our office or jump on a chat through our website.

Almost the perfect bike! The only wish I have is if you guys make an e-bike version of it. Like the Orbea Rise or Specialized Turbo Levo SL. This would be an amazing long ride trail e bike! @pivotcyclesusa3 жыл бұрын
Looking at head tube angles, the Trail and Switchblade share similar angles (for a particular setting), but if you look at the rest of the geo numbers, travel numbers, and the spec of both bikes, you realize they are very different siblings of the same Pivot family. By applying that steeper/longer/slacker progressive geo seen on the Switchblade to the Trail, we created a mid-travel 29er bike with the stability and confident handling of a bigger enduro/all-mountain bike but in a much lighter, snappier trail package. We highly encourage you to visit your local Pivot dealer and throw a leg over the Trail before judging it solely on the numbers listed on a geo chart.
