Soul is a 2020 American animated fantasy comedy-drama film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. It was directed by Pete Docter and co-directed by Kemp Powers. Joe is a middle-school band teacher whose life hasn't quite gone the way he expected. His true passion is jazz -- and he's good. But when he travels to another realm to help someone find their passion, he soon discovers what it means to have soul.

as a su!cide survivor, this movie legitimately changed me as a person. 22 as a character made me hurt, not wanting to live because you’re terrified of failing or not having purpose. i can’t describe the feeling i got when i saw the compilation of 22/Joe just existing, living life- not doing anything but being. i don’t need a purpose to live. i can just exist, and that will always be enough.

Just finished and mannnnn.... I know toxic masculinity is a thing, I don't see myself that way but I come from a tough background. I used to cry a lot as a kid, as I aged though that instinct to cry was kinda worked out of me. Long story short I can't cry, even when I want to. This movie pulled three tears out of my eyes, and the catharsis was amazing. Life is horrible and beautiful, it's horribly beautiful but it's our's to live. Sometimes we all got to take a second and smell the roses. We need to take the good with the bad and keep living. Let's all be grateful for our lives and I've them to the fullest.

Everyone in this thread should also give elemental a chance. It's not perfect, but the visuals are beyond stunning and the message of familial love and how important it is is genuinely one of my favorite messages in a Pixar movie. It isn't peak Pixar-like-soul, and The Incredibles is, but Just because it isn't a flawless masterpiece doesn't mean it's garbage. If it wasn't associated with Pixar, people would be praising it to high Heaven for the animation and set pieces alone.

18:06 I know you guys are kidding, but I agree with that. I'm kinda tired of so many protagonists in so much media being kids/teens, and the stories they tell with them always being some rehash of the "coming of age" plot. You never really stop discovering who you are, even after you're an adult. Adulthood comes with many new challenges that would make great stories, even in kid's media, but they rarely ever try to broach those subjects. The fear of death and the need for your life to mean something becomes much more intense as an adult because now you're expected to figure everything out on your own. The confusion, indecision, and fear of failure that plagues children and teens doesn't magically end once they turn eighteen. The only thing that changes is now you're expected to deal with it alone.

Some movies do deserve sequels. Inside Out needed one because it hinted at Riley was going through puberty soon. Yes they already made a puberty related movie, but it’s still fun to see how creative they can be with the world of Inside Out. Movies like Frozen don’t need another movie because idk to me the story already felt wrapped up. Frozen 1 ended with Ana and Kristoff engaging and Elsa was the queen. Not much to expand on idk. Toy Story definitely didn’t need ANOTHER movie. If it ended at 3, that would’ve been fine. 4 wasn’t the best but it was an end for Woody’s story and moving on from being a kids toy to being…his own toy?
@LaCabraAsada
@LaCabraAsada 7 ай бұрын
@@bclynch30 Yeah, let Toy Story die, lol. Inside Out 2 isn't _that_ much of a puberty-related movie, tbh. Yes, the catalyst for the plot is Riley hitting puberty, but the story is more so about dealing with anxiety, insecurity and teenhood. I'm guessing Turning Red is more about puberty (since the main plot point is literally an alleory of menstruation), but I haven't watched it.

These guys know nothing about jazz (except maybe Jack). At 18:30 when Eden says "it's just arpeggios" I was like, that's literally a fundamental part of the genre. Joe's first solo is improv, and I was always told when I started doing improv to utilize arpeggios, since it's literally the notes of the chord you're playing. And either way, Jazz isn't just swing; there's bebop, hard bop, post-bop, cool jazz, fusion, dixieland, big band, gypsy, blues, modal, latin, smooth, funk, orchestral, modern, and probably more.

9:46 - I'm autistic and my theatre took a trip to New York recently. Being surrounded by people makes me claustrophobic and things that overstimulate my senses (loud noises, most physical contact, jump scares/spontaneous fast movements/people coming out of nowhere, and overly bright lights or the lack of lights/very little light) make me uncomfortable. I get where the joke is coming from and thought it was funny but wanted to share my experience with autism. While in New York the streets and the noise were not big problems for me, could be because of my years living in Dallas but IDK, there weren't many people on the streets when my group was walking around. My biggest thing was my as I like to call it "sensory overload" while walking around Manhattan there was soooooooo much to see that at times it became hard to breath (not to mention the constant smell of smoke, I suppose intense smell is also a trigger of mine but it's the lesser of the evils). While there we saw a play on Broadway (I won't tell you which one) where they shinned a black light on the whole theatre and the floors, walls, and ceilings were covered in words. It was so cool but after like 3 seconds I was trembling and breathing was very difficult, I guess the font of the writing also triggered me, it was a very evil looking font, the kind of font you would use if you were writing in blood. I was so relieved when they turned it off. Autism affects everyone differently and I can absolutely relate to that man and his cat :D

A thing about Jack in this video is that if you cover his face and voice he will turn into a 40 y/o man coming from work an eventually falls sleep on the couch while the TV is on

This movie really is one of a kind. MORE *GROWNUP* REGULAR JOE'S LIKE... Well, Joe! But what he did at the end was nothing *regular...* He was so freaking selfless and brave.

I once saw a review of this movie that said it was terrible because Joe came back to life at the end, but not because its a cop out, but because he should have gone to the great beyond to reunite with his father and see the afterlife, and that since it came out during covid, it should have made a choice that makes death easier to deal with for kids to think about their loved ones who died. Imagine missing a movies point that hard.

This is genuinely like in my top 5 Pixar movies or at least very near it. Like I’ve watched all of them and very few feel as emotionally profound as this one, which feels insane to say considering all the other incredibly emotional Pixar movies out there

This movie is so good and I wish it released pre-covid. It’s got a meaning that’s easily understandable but so different to really FEEL it. Just being happy to wake up that morning or eat pizza. I love this movie
