As someone who has owned a Pixel 4 and who currently has an S21 Ultra, I am VERY impressed with the 5a here. Seemingly it is just as good and often better than the S21 when it comes to colors and detail. The only areas where I think the S21 is definitely better is in night shots and zoom. I think we will see the Pixel 6 regain the camera Crown this fall

I'm still on my P2XL and did purchase a S21 Ultra a few months back. While the hardware itself was impressive. The camera and photo experience was not. I always felt like the Pixel took cleaner pictures that weren't as soft around the edges. That 100mpx camera was definitely a gimmick. Maybe it's me, but I ended up selling it a couple months after. Let's hope P6 can shine as a no gimmick phone that does everything right.

Great comparison! One thing I would like to see is a comparison of the actual experience when TAKING the photo! Shutter speed, motion blur, such things! Cause I had a Pixel 3a in the past, and I miss how it always took photos instantly and never got blurry, specially with moving people / objects. I have a Galaxy S10e atm and it quite often sucks on those cases! These type of details we never get on these comparisons, we only see the final results here, and mostly just still objects are tested.

With the Galaxy S21 Ultra you're getting way more options and a camera phone that is close not exactly but close to what you would get with a DSLR and mind you nothing is going to get dslr-quality pictures unless you're actually using a DSLR camera but with the Galaxy S21 Ultra you're getting a whole lot of bang for your buck but if you're looking to save, I would definitely go with the pixel especially since there's nothing out there that can come close to what it can do with nighttime photography and it competes with the S21 Ultra in quite a few categories.

For the selfies, s21 is doing a better job at edge detection, lifting the shadows (although sometimes it looks washed out) and natural bokeh because of the big sensor. But the main sensor and the ultrawide shots look better on the 5a. Also nighttime selfies and pictures look sharper on the 5a. Videos are mostly better on the s21, and it has the advantage of shooting also in 8k. But I don't know how many people use that often enough to be worth the 700 dollars extra 💁🏻‍♂️Too bad Google is still so bad at launching their phones properly and making them available on a global scale...

I see what approach to color processing Samsung is taking (almost like its tone mapping the highlights and shadows to produce a more vivid & wider dynastic range looking picture.) Tho the traid offs are evident ,googles approach is better in a lot of ways as its not hit with Samsung's more advanced way's disadvantages. I really wonder if the pixel 6 will use Samsung's strategy and improve upon it, if they don't,the s22 will just blow it out the water as its new rgbw sensor ,new & better ai computational photography magic & new isp should allow Samsung to produce the best possible pictures possible

Pixel 5a punches way above its cost. I'd give a slight edge to the S21 based on a count of shots that I preferred from it, however its not a huge edge at all, and many shots I thought the Pixel handled better.

I am Pixel 4a 5G user. General speaking, S21 ultra got a white cover blurring on photo it's capture, Pixel 5a has removed Laser Auto Focus module (PDAF) but it seen like more nature in reality, dynamic range is wide, and focus well on shooting.

If you're not using your phone to go edit photos and videos or gaming, midrange phones like the galaxy a52 and pixel 5a are really great especially with cameras these good. The pixel also does come with 3 years of android updates and that's just awesome.

There is not a huge difference. Some of the pics with the Samsung S21 has a blurred effect but when there is not both phones are so close. Pixel takes better selfies and portrait mode. Night mode on Pixel is awesome. I bought the Pixel 5a and glad I did.

What I noticed is that the Pixel 5a sometimes produces better shots and sometimes it's the S21. Another thing I saw was that the Pixel 5a suffers from a yellow haze over it's images in comparison to the Samsung. The Samsung seems to produce a better white balance. Am I the only one who sees this?

Great comparison ...The Pixel definitely has taken better photos in day light condition. Zoom quality is comparable upto 2x despite pixel only use digital zoom but beyond that samsung is champion in zoom. The videography is also comparable I didn't see any difference in day light.Yes with that gigantic 108mp sensor samsung does better in low light, whether in handling glare or dynamic range in both photos and videos. But pixel with its tiny sensor does an excellent job in low light. I am pretty sure with the new Tensor chip google will set new benchmark in photography as they did in past with pixel 2.

S21 Ultra has MUCH better video quality. Look at the road at 4:50 the pixel is a pixellated mess whereas the s21u holds up decently well although you would expect a bit better given there still are some compression artefacts.

The Pixel is only grainy at night with you don't use night mode. Great video quality and stabilization. And there's not much difference except in zoom on photo quality plus you get Pixel perks like call screening and much more for less money. I dunno why they're not flying off the shelves but they are doing decent.

Pixel for photo realism but the S21 ultras rear camera video is amazing. Selfie camera goes to S21 ultra but the video from the selfie cam on the Pixel appeared much more clear than the 4k on the Galaxy. The Galaxy had far too much noise.

Can't go wrong with either. Just a matter whether you have the extra money and want the extra performance for the S21 Ultra. If money isn't a factor, I would get the S21 in a blind test just because the device holds and looks better aesthetically. But when it comes down to an everyday phone I would stick to stock Android, Pixel for the win. I'm hoping Pixel 6 would give us both Samsung aesthetics but keep its Pixel UI and reliability.

The Pixel 5 has had the same exact issue since launch. No, there will probably be no fix. The same issue happens on a few other phones recoding video at 4k/60. Some simply put a time limit so that you never get to the "overheating" message. Most people just leave video capture at 1080p since that's the default and if you are changing resolution, my recommendation is 4k/30 so that you can switch between the main and ultrawide while recording a single clip.

Even though the S21 Ultra has better hardware I think the Pixel 5A is doing better job algorithmically. Specially if you see the flowers it becomes clear that Pixel is better at detecting where we want to focus. Now of course with a little time for adjusting focus and post editing, S21 Ultra images can actually be better but for most people like me, we want to shoot a picture and post it in facebook/Instagram. For these type of people software processing and default image is more important than the hardware.

Lol. I've say more than 90% of people just start recording, leaving the video resolution at 1080p. Also, if you record at 4k/60 you can only record from the main camera since the ultrawide only captures 4k/30. If you leave it at 4k/30 you can switch on the fly between the two lenses in a single video clip without having to record 4k/60 from the main cameras and then stop, change settings to 4k/30, switch to the ultrawide and then start recording again. That just sounds like a pain in the ass.

I’m seriously impressed with images coming from S21 Ultra. 5A is not bad but S21 is clearly better. S21 has virtually no noise in the night shots whilst 5a has very noisy darks. And the sharpening and contrast are quite a bit pronounced with 5A. I’d say S21 all the way.

Colors, which seems like S21 failed to produce naturally. Blue tint, white cast and hazy effect. But for low light photos, S21 is running ahead. Lower grain, noise and better light suppression.

Everyone said the Pixel took like the best pics in the World for a smartphone. I am not seeing it. Video is a lot of white wash and photos are over exposed. Samsung looks more natural. I own neither so don't have a biased opinion.

This is not even funny and makes me really wonder what will happen in a few months with Pixel 6 release. Can Google introduce something that will beat any competition for years to come ... again?

The S21 is clearly better than the pixel's but not by the difference of the S21 price. Also prefer Samsung's tone down picture vs the more punch and contrasting Pixels.
