thats actually a good step in the right direction for google with right to repair. not only allowing the repair but actually providing supported tools to the community to facilitate said repairs. i tip my hat to you google.

This is all good and well, but when are the parts going to be supplied, they discourage repairs when they don't provide one parts and only supply them to their authorized repair partner
@jacobnathanielzpayag38853 жыл бұрын
This is the repair model that I want to see. Being able to both recalibrate and verify that a part is genuine makes repair much more feasible. The question is if Google will make the parts available for purchase.
@rufmeister3 жыл бұрын
"and verify that a part is genuine " as long as this part is not a blocker for repairs. If a Pixel is several years old, and a cheap Chinese knockoff part can make it "at least work fine" where an original part would be too expensive to fix the phone at that point, then "verifying that a part is genuine" as a way to block 3rd party screens is not helpful.
@deoxal79473 жыл бұрын
@@rufmeister Let's hope that isn't the cas but as long as someone has saved that web app, it could be modified to always pair aftermarket screens.
@michaelcarton3299 Жыл бұрын
@@rufmeister I just needed to replace the ear speaker. Original parts are NOWHERE to be found. The modern age has supply chain issues up the ying yang. I had to buy a knock-off. It works, what else can I say. It was also 10$ with 2 day shipping. Many people no longer have land lines and use cell phones for both personal and work. When things go down you need a repair ASAP. Assurion (UbreakIfix) is not officially supported by Google, but they will not sell parts and most things are out of stock everywhere, basic things like a screen. Cheap knock-off parts have their place (be real, ALL parts, genuine or not, are Chinese).

When will mobile phone manufacturers finally realize that making their phones easy to repair will result in more sales. A wise phone company could use repairability as a marketing tool to increase market share. If people discover that their phone cannot be repaired at a reasonable cost they will probably buy their next phone from someone else. I bought a Pixel 6 and I'm pleased to know that my phone can be worked on if I damage it.

Hello, thank you for this tutorial. I fixit's camera replacement video shows a coper foil on the back of the phone that attached to the 5g antennae on the top. They show it being peeled back. It is so thin and the adhesive doesn't let it be removed without falling apart. Replacement cameras do not include this foil. What do you recommend? I found copper foil tape for electronics, but they are much thicker and I am not sure if the underside of the foil should be conductive or not, it is available in both.

I feel like there's shade between iFixit & Google. iFixit didn't do a teardown of the pixel 5 last year despite it being very repairable IMO as a repair tech. still curious why the heck those batteries cannot be added as in old school samsung galaxy s2. remove back panel, change the battery, put it back. Plus let's say whenever you are changing battery, - extra little battery will keep a phone on for 30 seconds without a reboot.

Isn't the tensor chip a modified Exynos 2100?
@JuzNyc3 жыл бұрын
Tensor might use some similar components to Exynos but the core configuration is completely different. Google went with two X1 cores instead of one and A76 mid cores instead of the A78. Tensor isn't fully custom google designed silicon but I think it's too different to be called a modified 2100. It's more like if Google were to make an Exynos chip it would be Tensor. Kinda like if there was a Lego kit and Samsung built it one way for the 2100 and Google took the same Lego kit and built it a different way to get Tensor.
