This tutorial was incredibly well made and very easy to follow. I can't tell you how many different animation tutorials I've followed where I couldn't understand the how or the why someone was doing something in a frame, now I get it with the awesome breakdown you did and continuing to use the same terminology throughout. Great work, just for this you've earned my sub and bell!

Thanks so much! Since I don't have a huge time budget for these videos, I'm committed to recording them in one rolling take and without much of a script. This one took me a couple of sessions, as I wasn't happy with the first run, but I'm really glad people are responding well. It's very difficult to tell if I've missed anything or been inconsistent with my explanations, or too brief, during the recording. It's never perfect, but I'm really happy that the effort is being noticed.

@@AdamCYounis Totally agree w/ Night Basillisk - pixel art is a deep enough topic. Animation, yeah, is bonkers - often seems like magic there are so many overlapping disciplines and integrated stylistic approaches. Better to hear all the details and see it come to life. Insanely valuable.

I have no idea how KZbin knew I was getting into pixel art and therefore decided to recommend your content (over, say, anyone else's -- algorithm schmalgorithm), but I'm so _so_ happy I found you. I've been binging your vids and your gentle yet interdisciplinary and might I add noticably experienced approach is a total joy to watch. In this particular case, I've watched this and that explanation on animation techniques throughout the years, but I finally feel like it's all coming together in this one video. Stunning! The trick of tracking different body parts with different colours will help me so much. Thanks! Keep 'em coming, please. :)

Hi, I'm watching this three years in the future. I just wanted to say thank you. I'm trying to make a game of my own and pixel art has always been where my games have failed because I always told myself that I can't do art and couldn't find someone to help. This time, though, I'm determined to see it through and that means doing the art myself. I'm not great at it, but I've already learned a lot from videos like this. :)

But in two weeks i've been studying your tutorials and it helped me improve in ways i didn't imagine possible. Hey Adam ! At 43:00 you talk about how important it is to keep the pixels of the head the same during the animation to make sure the player can recognize the character (at any frame ideally) Don't you think yet that it forces the facial expression to stay the same during the whole animation ? Or were you talking more about the shape of the head and face ? I looked back to your exemple of a character from (i believe) street fighter (sorry if i'm wrong ahah) and we can see that the facial expression is used to support these phases of anticipation, impact, and rest... But when i look at your sprite i really don't know how you could do something similar. I might be wrong, but i feel like there is a difference of resolution between Armin and this character from street fighter, which stops your work from being too detailed I know you already talked about the different emotions we can show with facial expressions in the dialogue portrait tutorial, but do you think you will talk about showing the emotions during the gameplay too ? Is that a thing ? Anyway sorry to bother you with all these questions, i really like your content and the passion you put in your work ! I hope you the best, have a nice day ! :)
