Hi, I have a question, when doing your scaling and doing ratios for your pixel art assets, how do you do the ratios for characters and scale it to the game objects and screen resolution, how do you ratio all that so it looks good across all the assets.
@saultoons4 жыл бұрын
Hi Frosty Map, when I’m creating assets for a game I first establish what resolution the game is going to be in. For example, 16:9 screen resolution ratio. Which is the most common screen size, especially for console/PC. Then I design the game based on that ratio. So if I want my game to work in 1920*1080 (a very common resolution), I may design a pixel art mock up at 480*270 which is pixel art to 1080p ratio of 4:1, (divide 1920 by 4 and 1080 by 4) so my pixel art would scale by 4 in engine. But the actual ratio depends on your game and character assets too, if you need more room on the screen you may do 3:1 and design in 640x360 so the characters don’t take up as much space. I usually just keep experimenting and find what works best for the game, as long as it’s a scale factor of common resolution that I’m targeting, (typically 16:9 1920x1080) it will scale fine :) I’ll be making a video on my background design process at some point so I’ll try and address this issue in that video if you need further help! If you have any further questions or need any help don’t hesitate to join the discord or find me on social media and I’ll do what I can to help :D

I have a 2 questions: 1.for characters in pixel art,whats rhe best way for learning proportions and perspective? 2.Is it possible to enter pixel art with no prior art knowledge?
@saultoons4 жыл бұрын
1 - Study realistic proportions so you know when and how you can exaggerate them. Characters in perspective is just applying those proportions to a perspective grid. There are some great tutorials on KZbin for applying characters in perspective, I would also recommend checking out some books like Loomis Figure Drawing, Anatomy For Sculptors, which can help you get a grasp on proportions and characters in perspective. 2 - Of course, I think pixel art is probably the most accessible art form because you don't need a lot of prior knowledge to make something look good. BUT saying that, learning art fundamentals along the way will definitely help improve your pixel art, because it is just a medium at the end of the day, just like painting, or 3D, they are all mediums which use art fundamentals. Hope that could answer your questions. If you have any more, make sure you join the discord where people would be more than happy to help you out :)

How would you recommend adding music to an animation like this? Thanks for your step-by-step process!
@saultoons3 жыл бұрын
Most likely has to be done in an external video editor, just find or create sounds you like and try to sync them up. There are a number of free sound effect sources and websites which allow you to use sound effects. But creating them yourself with a mic and some creativity can be just as fun :D

a pesar de que tu video esta en ingles, logre entenderlo bastante, aun yo siendo un principiante tus videos me motivan mucho a mejorar y de una manera muy rapida. Thx bro, lamento hablar en español xd. use the traductor.

Gracias por mirar mi videos :D (No Google Translate, I know BASIC Spanish???)

Thank you very much ;)
