Love the improvements of the pixel watch. 3. Sadly, a lot of these improvements feel like software upgrades, so I'm hopeful that Google releases the same update towards the pixel watch. 2. There's no reason it shouldn't be able to do it considering it has the exact same hardware. Google software locking this would make them no better than apple

They eventually pushed many of the PW 2 features to the PW 1. And those had different hardware regarding health tracking. With the Watches this time being similar in that aspect, I highly think they'll give them to us.

Ray, comparing to other self defining 'devices scientists' you continue to be the most serious and knowledgeable reviewer of health and sport devices. Anyway, I'm an happy FR255 owner and I was wondering if buy a newer Garmin watch such as FR 265. I'm also a Pixel 7 owner and I personally love the Google devices ecosystem, so your first insights convinced me to buy a Google Pixel Watch 3, because finally it seems that Big G steered toward a more serious sports watch. Anyway, Fitbit app is still really ugly, and for my training I will still use FR255 and Garmin coaching.

as long as they still use sd on the pixel watch, I think it will have the same 3 years updates... sucks but that's all we're gonna have to deal with until Google can make their own soc of the pixel watch... If PBP2 gets its own A1 tensor why not pixel watch???

Ray you are a Strava user. It would be interesting for you to review the Strava App that runs on the Pixel Watch. It can send Strava Beacon from the LTE watch (with no phone present) so my family knows where I am running. Compared to my FR 945 LTE Live Track it does not seen as reliable or updated as often. I moved to a 965 so rely on Beacon. Even though I have to wear a 2nd watch the LTE allows calling and texting that cannot be done with the 945. I use a Pixel phone and Google Fi so the Pixel Watch is my best option.

I need a watch that can 1) Run the Strava app with auto-pause and audio feedback, and 2) Stream podcasts and You Tube Music over cellular with a very efficient UX and with no need to bring your phone. The Apple Watch's YT Music app can't stream, so I'm hoping this is the one.

Quick question about the battery saver mode, you said in the video that the tilt-to-wake gesture still works in battery saver mode (i.e. the display activates when you raise your wrist)... Are you sure this is accurate? I'm just asking this because the Pixel Watch 2 also has a battery saver mode and this disables BOTH the always-on-display AND the tilt-to-wake gesture. Would be interesting to know if they actually changed this for the PW3.

Which WearOS watch would you recommend for a multi-sport endurance athlete? I'm leaning towards the Ticwatch Pro 5 Enduro because of the battery life, but the Pixel 3 and Galaxy 7 look pretty good too. I liked my Suunto 7 until the text messaging stopped working with the latest Android update and I have major screen burn making it tough to read.

Looking forward to your full review and tests. The Pixel Watch 2 was by far the worst Smart Watch I've ever owned. The speaker was absolutely terrible, the bezels huge and the screen too small. Then there was the activity tracking.... every single GPS run or walk I tracked lost GPS at around the halfway mark and never recovered, resulting in a straight line back to my start point.

The 2nd is still in progress and lost GPS 20 min ago and still says "GPS connecting" even though I've been in wide open spaces the whole time. It's completely unusable as a fitness device

Funny maps isn't one of the strong points of the pixel watch when Google maps is extensive o data. Google should've gave is double the storage 1.5 display and a bigger batter 500mah. Well that sucks. I was hoping they would have solved the battery issue. Heck, my 5yr old TicWatch Pro LTE still gets me a full 2-day battery life with all data features turned on!!! In essential mode I still get about 30 days before having to charge it again. Since Ticwatch no longer offer LTE because of the US banning Chinese cellular conectivity wearables, I guess I'm screwed. I hope One Plus watch 3 LTE gets released in the US but I highly doubt it.

Now, Apple not only has to catchup to Garmin, Polar and such, but even to WearOS. Strange... A lot has to do with the HRM which is only tracks HR (and HRV) is irregular patterns. Perhaps the new watch next month will come with a new, 24/7 hrm and Apple builds on the features shown for next WatchOS, adding comparable stuff.

Does it connect to an external heart rate strap? I am very impressed with this. I would actually pick this over Samsung even though I have a Samsung phone. Google store seems to be suggesting the structured workouts won't be coming to the older watches. Considering it's clearly just down to software that's very disappointing. Even Apple aren't that bad. If Garmin ever release a cellular forerunner/fenix watch I'd imagine it's going to completely decimate the Pixel and Apple watch sales.

@@sturdyvw I'd forgotten about the 945 LTE - it was weird a implementation though, I think if it was done nowadays ('fully smart') the take up would be significantly better. Especially if they covered more countries (UK in particular). I see a lot of runners wearing two watches (Garmin and either Pixel/Apple Watch) just so they can have the connectivity without carrying a phone. Will be interesting to see what (if anything) does actually trickle down to the older Pixel watches -- would definitely be willing to dust off my Pixel Watch 2 if it gets structured workouts.

If Garmin would implement this I would definitely go back to Garmin since as running watch Samsung is much worse.

Hi 911 Dispatcher here...Question for the new "Loss of Pulse" feature... how accurate is the GPS when compared to the apple watch ultra? I ask this because I work in a rural area, and the cell service in some of our areas isn't the best, especially on our hiking trails near the Blue Ridge Parkway. If it isn't accurate, we could possibly send emergency personnel to the wrong area, furthering delay of care. If anyone can help me with this please respond!

GPS uses the internal GPS chipset, not cellular coverage. Thus, accuracy is within 10-15ft.

The Apple watch has been so stagnant for many years. The UI is probably the least intuitiv ui apple has ever done. Its only good for Fitness Tracking and payments. I really hope they redo the apple watch someday and make it as smart as the pixel watch. I would switch to it if i could.

The pixel watch 3 is a joke. 1) can't change notification sounds. 2) can't start a new message from the message app, unless you know the phone number. 3) can't get a notification when you go out of range your phone.

Im glad my life does not revolve around the nano features of the battery operated device on my wrist. My Casio ran continuous for up to 2 years on a battery, and never became obsolete due to software limitations. Now the rings are here to further distract you all from any thoughts, or safe driving possible.
