Finally, more Napoleon! It’s all I watch on this channel, what a still-stunning game.

It was an impressively realistic battle in this replay (as I haven't seen in a long time), because of how the fronts were held and because the exchange of rifle fire prevailed over the crazy charges that usually happen in these games; without a doubt, the NTW3 MOD is the best of all for Napoleonic era battles. Also, as a Hispanic from Central America, I'm glad to finally see two competent players using the Spanish faction in NTW3 (which doesn't have the best army in the game, but if you know how to use it well, it can surprise you) and that they were the most decisive for the final victory, instead of Austria and Russia. The way they held the flanks was very good and prevented the French from taking advantage of the almost Austrian defeat in the center of the battlefield. Normally, players are terrible at using Spain, but these two good generals made me smile with the victory.

One thing I don't agree with is the discussion about thick lines: if you read manuals from the era the normal practice was to deploy the troops in formations two or three rank deep. This is to bring as many muskets to bear on the enemy of course. There were situations were thicker lines were preferred of course, such as Napoleon's column assault, or to repel cavalry, but generally in a line to line engagement the main priority was to maximize firepower. I chuck this up to a game limitation more than the mod's fault honestly: by having thicker lines you are spreading the morale damage on more formations, but real life is not based on small units each with its individual morale bar which is why this only works in game.

Well said nowadays TWE battles i saw players with deep columns and i’m like spread them out a bit keep it to 4 files or max 5 . So disarranged and not fighting in long lines of multiple units to avoid as much flanking as possible

More units, scouting is vital, not every unit can form square and factions do things very diffrent.

It seemed to me that the Coalition did a better job with reserves and layered defences. Now, I do know something about Napoleonics, and am not an expert in how to game TW Napoleon/NTW3, but these deep units do not seem historically accurate (yes, they had columns, but they didn't look like this). And if it's a better way to win the game, I don't understand why CA does that. The Brits fought in lines two deep and French in lines 3 deep to maximize firepower. Maybe it isn't much better, since the French did lose here. But again, they weakened their center, broke there first. Seemed to do a poor job with layered defences and reserves. And seemed like they just loved these deep, deep formations. I don't know. Still, a beautiful game. I love watching your replays. I tried to download and install NTW3 and sadly could not get it to work. :(
