I have been curious about Chromebooks ever since they had been incepted into the world. The main question I had, was what can a Chromebook do, and why do people choose them over an iPad or even a PC? I have watched youtube videos on them for years and as great as review videos are, they still were not answering my question, 'why a Chromebook?" So, I decided to purchase one. I chose the PixelBook Go base model. I could not justify the extra cost, because then it just gets into the price range of an MBA. I chose the Pixelbook GO because I just loved the design of it. It caught me as a device that wasn't trying to be something that its not. A Chromebook is not a tablet, it's a browser with a keyboard and I wanted the best representation of that. I have owned the Pixebook Go base model now for a week and I actually love it. I was amazed to find out how much of my work could be done through a browser. The first thing I was able to answer for myself, was can you use thumb drives to store things, can you download content to the Chromebook and the answer is yes. The next thing I answered for myself is, can you game on the device, and the answer is yes; cloud gaming but it's still gaming. The third question I answered for myself, is a Chromebook worth it? The answer is, yes, as long as you don't overspend. Before buying this I of course watched videos and took into consideration people's opinions about the device. One recurring comment of the device as if you're going to use the device as your main computer, spend the extra money and buy the i5 model. Second, if your thinking of a Chromebook, consider buying a PC like the Surface Laptop Go. And lastly, if you're going to buy a Chromebook, don't spend the money to buy a google product because you can save money and still get a great device. First of all, I am glad I did not buy the i5 model, the m3 model is plenty fast enough even with having two separate Chrome windows open with 10 tabs each. Second, I did consider, a PC but a PC at this price range does not provide me the experience I have on the Chromebook in terms of speed and performance. Lastly, the Chromebook is worth it , because I have been able to do everything for work and I am even able to get things done a little quicker using this machine. Coming from a die-hard desktop person, this device is definitely worth it if you are needing a lightweight device while your on the go, you have access to a stable internet connection, and you're looking for a device that is sturdy and well built. Then this device is definitely for you.

I have typed so far several opinions of the PixelBook Go over the last few weeks and this of course is another one. As before mentioned, I have owned my pixelbook Go for a little over a month now and I absolutely love the device. Before owning a Chromebook., I had been a strict PC and Mac user, mostly Mac. The reason, was because I had always thought that Chromebooks were a waste of money because I did not consider Chrome OS as a capable operating system. What this past month has taught me is that I was wrong. First, when I began going over my current workflow I began to realize just how much I was using the Chrome Browser. I work in field sales, and most of my work is done using the Chrome Browser. The Chrome Browser has been my Browser of choice because of the extensions and the ability to make web shortcuts of my favorite and most used web sites. A Chromebook is not just a browser, to me, it is a computer reimagined. When you make shortcuts out of the websites you use, it is literally like using an app after you create the shortcut. You can then make the shortcut into a full-screen desktop. The typing experience and keyboard shortcuts make using Chrome fun and definite productivity master. On top of the keyboard, you have a back shortcut, refresh shortcut, media controls, fullscreen toggle, and display brightness controls. Other shortcuts include a search shortcut and google assistant. Like a PC or Mac, you can have multiple windows open at a time, and create multiple virtual desktops. On those desktops, you can of course use your apps or shorts on split-screen to increase productivity. Storage, you can download documents straight from the web onto the physical storage on your Chromebook, or of course, you can use cloud storage like Google Drive or OneDrive. The reason I am stating all this info is that this is news I have learned by using a Chromebook and I am happy that gave a Chromebook a try because it has definitely secured itself as my secondary device. Great Video as always.

Done, just walked into best buy and bought the base version. They even had a open box on sale enough to cover the sales tax lol. Really feels like a sturdy machine compared to other Chromebooks in store. The Samsung Plus V2 felt twice as thick and heavy in comparison. Will say that that the Samsung was around $400 and there was the HP x360 which you reviewed highly on the channel at $349. Big price difference, and HPs screen did look good. The build quality of the Pixelbook swung it for me. Hope it's worth double the price for an M processor vs i3 on the HP.

As a throwback, I watched Robby's 2016 review of the Dell Chromebook 13. It looks like a well built 13 inch for it's day and the core i3 version would still hold up fairly well today against the competition today. Funny that Robby said back then that he would almost make it his daily driver but that the 13 inch 1080p screen was a little small for his work flow. Maybe he is more on the go now preferring the Pixelbook Go. No doubt there is something to be said about a 15 inch like the Acer 715 or Lenovo C630 if you don't mind the size and weight.

Okay so don't judge me because I already know I have a problem, but I have the Pixelbook, Pixel Slate, and now the Pixelbook Go as well. The Pixelbook mostly stays at the office and the lap-ability of the Pixel Slate at home was severely lacking (in addition, tablet mode has gotten so good that I actually use the Slate primarily as a tablet these days.) So long story short, I needed a laptop for laptop things at home, and wow this thing is impressive. The speakers and camera are even nicer than I expected because I have been really satisfied with those aspects of the Slate and I just assumed that they would be the same. Regarding lap-ability, it's absolutely fantastic- compared to my Pixelbook, which always slipped against the fabric of my pants and and as a result, feels more comfortable on a desk. Even at severe angles, the Go is very stable and wants to stay firmly on my lap even with my phone in my pocket trying to push it off. The only obvious step down is the screen. It's a bright, vibrant panel, but there are very few screens that look as good as the Slate to begin with. It would be nice if Google threw in the 4k molecular panel on the $999 i5 model. I definitely would have gotten it over the $849 i5 model that I chose. I really hope that Pixelbook 2 (Halvor?) combines the best aspects of the Go and the original Pixelbook. Plus with Windows emulation coming, and with Crostini getting really good, I hope there's a more powerful pro model in the works even if is thicker and requires a fan.

I’d go with the M3. The important hardware consideration for chromebooks is memory. There aren’t too many tasks you can do on a chromebook that require a really powerful processor. IMO that’s the advantage of ChromeOS. In many ways it is similar to iPad. It doesn’t try to do too much but it does the stuff it does really well. The characters on that keyboard are reminiscent of those on my Pixel-C's aluminium companion keyboard. That one is the only keyboard I've ever owned where the characters stay put - not a single one has worn out and if the GO can perform that well then that's excellent. @Chrome Unboxed -- Hi Robbie. Can you please comment on your experience with running Linux apps on either the m3/8GB or i5/8GB units? I'm looking to upgrade from my C302, which will never get Crostini.

Guess in some sense I've become kind of an old man that i don't really need a whole lot from a device, certainly nothing bleeding edge. I have been using my Pixel Skate for everything that I'm not using the phone for as a laptop, tablet, and desktop. I bought it well after they slashed the price in midst of the reviewers bagging on it and it has been having the greatest ROI I've ever had in a machine. Perhaps I'll do the same one this one is replaced with its next gen.

Trying to find the perfect Chromebook is like trying different Linux distros: the search never ends. After reading your ¨rave¨ review of the Pixebook Go, I bought one, an i3, for $600. (This despite already owning an HP X360 14 Chromebook and a Lenovo C630 4K Chromebook.) My bad: I did not realize that the Pixelbook Go was a clamshell, a potential deal-breaker for me. But even if I overlooked that fact, the Go also had these problems: it became hot (not just warm) under some circumstances, it was somewhat slower than the HP, and also unlike the HP, the Pixelbook Go had no sd slot, no USB A, and only 64 GB storage. The final straw: my favorite game - a simple hearts card game - (nothing graphics intensive) froze (touchpad became unresponsive) on the Go. So, while I liked the Go ́s size, weight, display and general ̈feel,̈ I am back to the HP X360 as the best overall choice. The Pixelbook Go is GOing back to Best Buy tomorrow.

Would you recommend picking up a pixelbook go today, 2 years after launch? I know it's supported until 2026 and the specs and build are strong enough to last. I can't find anything on Google bringing out a replacement, I had hoped for an 'a series' pixelbook go but 🤷♂️

Hi, i've binged many of your reviews over the last few days trying to make my mind up about buying a Chromebook. When you're talking about Chromebooks, why don't you ever talk about the touchscreens in the input sections ? Isn't that one of the important features in a Chromebook ? I'd like to know how good they are, how reliable they are, ect.

$649 is a bit much for me since I'm a fixed budget due to disability but I have to admit this chromebook sounds and looks to be pretty cool. Maybe if I get lucky somehow I'll buy one. Great video.

I would really like to see a video on performance difference between m3 and i5. I use a cheap chromebook 14" today with a celeron and it sometime chokes on gSuite Doc/Sheet/Slides.

I got the m3 but quickly exchanged it for the i5 and I'm really happy I did. The m3 wouldn't even load some webpages and is noticeably slower than the i5 IMO.

@@chromeunboxed Thanks a lot for both comments. I follow your great detailed reviews in the last year and as a fan of the original pixelbook due to design (not that much of pixelbook go), i went for the lenovo yopa 630 based on best benchmarks found and graphics card. One 3440x1440 is great but I prefer two 1080p "old school" monitors. I 'll keep you posted on my lenovo yoga experience and really hope for a future google pixelbook similar to 2017 with specs to be followed by the year of the release. Thanks a lot for your attention to my comment. :)

Did you notice that Visual Studio Code now has and Online version? Also, my understanding is that you can install Linux software on the newer Chromebook (I'm still on the 2015 pixel book) - that and hoping for better Bluetooth support are the *only* reasons I'm thinking of upgrading.

I was excited to get the Go; I thought it would be the perfect everyday notebook. I love my Asus C302; it took over duty from my iPad. After a few months, here's my take... Overall, great notebook; lotsa great qualities. Best feature has to be the sound quality! Worst feature is the track pad; it has lost responsiveness. Very disappointing. The C302 is better, except for the sound. By the way, I bought the i5. I hammer on this thing everyday; it goes everywhere with me. Your thoughts?

had mine for 4 days now and i love it, i watched over 10 reviews before buying and read everything but not 1 person mentioned the loudness of earphones, its a lot quieter to my old hp which was b&o, the speakers on the go are impressive like everyone says but i am a bit dissapointed in how quiet my beats are, on the hp i wouldn't max volume cos it would be too much, on this i have to max the volume and still needs 3 or 4 more notches up!

Nice. So just deliberating which model to get. I am thinking about the entry Core i5 with the 8gb and 128gb hard drive for $849. Is it worth the $200 over the base? Then again is it worth another $150 to get 16gb RAM?
