Ha yeah this is what kids at school in the early 90's used to play in their computer labs.

+vmvolcano Except mine had the Googol games instead of this. :B

I've got to admit, I find this style of edutainment quite interesting - mainly for the fact it's great for reinforcing what students would have learned… …and honestly, despite my own mathematical skills, I did *not* know a couple of the little tricks you mentioned - so yes, it's even helpful for those in adulthood :) Lovely review (and I dug the little aside too :) )

My CD-ROM version appears to be identical except it has AdLib sound support. There's some neat music that plays during the cutscenes and the demo.

Wile 'did' eventually catch that dastardly Roadrunner!

What, no violent content warning?

+kduhtdkzrt It's only necessary for "graphic" violence. This was more like "explosive/hungry" violence. :P

I was going to answer the guess the game, and based on the clue last week I considered this game strongly. Never had this version, I had Super Munchers, which was Number Munchers combined with Word Munchers. I had lots of fun with this as a kid. *Correction* Super Munchers was not a combination of Number Munchers and Word Munchers!

I'd love to see Number Munchers or Word Munchers on GOG.com. Whether it's the Dos or Windows versions or even better: both versions, I would buy it without hesitation!

You wanna know how to spot multiples of 7 with 3-digit numbers? Multiply the first digit by 2, add it to the rest of the number, then check if it's a multiple of 7. If it's still a 3-digit number, do it once more. You can also check multiples of composite numbers with unique factors by simply checking each factor, most commonly done with checking for multiples of both 2 and 3 to check multiples of 6. As another example, with the 14 board in the video, use my trick for 7 while also eliminating all odd numbers first. Just don't try it when the factors aren't unique (such as 12 = 2 x 2 x 3) unless you exponent the repeat factors first (12 = 2^2 x 3 = 4 x 3).

Should have submitted a guess. At some point I had a thought that this could be the game for this week. It was one of my favorite edutainment games (on the Apple II) when I was in elementary school.

I remember having a Munchers game as a kid. Looked in the office just now and found the 5.25" DOS release of Word Munchers still in box. I should probably set it up for my 6 year old and see if she's not too advanced for it already. Unfortunately it doesn't look like I ripped the floppies yet - probably a family member still had it when I did my initial floppy rip project a few years ago.

+HunterZBNS If you do set it up for her, remember to turn the difficulty way down. Even Number Munchers minimum recommended grade level is 3 and I can't imagine Word Munchers being much different. :o

You ever watch that old High Score webtoon that was the progenitor of Bonus Stage? In episode three, the Munchers actually are the bad guys. It's kinda funny you did a "Dark Secrets" section for this ep. XD

Oh, I've already guessed the filler. It's eGames and their installers bundled with ad/malware, ain't it? (And stealing games without credits to charge a pretty penny for them)
@Pixelmusement7 жыл бұрын
+XanthinZarda Actually, nope. I'm gonna be scrolling back to the early to mid 90s well before eGames existed. ;)

Galaxy of Games? Game Empire? I can't really think much further back, I didn't exist then.
