first pixies song i ever heard. my mother bought me "surfer rosa" for my 12th birthday. that album is in my opinion one of the best records ever made. igot hooked and never looked back. it really chenged my life. i became a musician because of that record. a monty after getting the record, i was buying a guitar just to learn their songs. one of the greatest bands ever and without doubt one of the most influential bands of all times. the amount of musicians and bands that mention the pixies as one of their references is incredible...

There's something truly special about this preformance, Frank Black playing that shell pink mustang, Kims red shirt and the sunburst P bass, David's incredible drumming, the lighting, Joey's sick Viper guitar and flannel shirt. The TV's stacked around the background, Kim messing with the camera man.... They truly changed everything.

Every time I hear it, I think 'why would anyone write a song so brutally discordant?' but then I immediately think it's really great that someone did.

Dude. It’s crazy to think about… think about the aspect of nowadays 80’s genre nostalgia / throwback television & movies…. That SOUNDscape of “the 80’s” moodsetting for their scoring…. Could never / wouldn’t be able to ever include this bands music to highlight that era…. It wouldn’t work, Ya kno…. Think, 1986, right… the takeplace-year of season 4: Stranger things… imagine if all of a sudden This^song or Where Is My Mind - came on…. …..it would throw off the whole 80’s stereotypical vibe of the mythos… ppl / more likely most the audience would be unfamiliar with the pixies Eros and the alien’ness of their Sound would sound out of place, totally….in their actual era…. Which is an incredible takeaway highlighting just how far ahead of its time pixies and surfer Rosa really were…. It’s incredibly fresh n relevant as if (to the unprepared) could sound like a brand-new song or music, still, 30+ years later. Wild…

5 thumbs down? WTSF. No other band has taken topics like rape, incest, murder, mutilation, etc... this far to make you want to blow chunks by laughing so hard. Not to mention the use (or misuse) of religious imagery in their music and yet, make it seem holy, so effortlessly
@LapsedPacifist792 жыл бұрын
Frank was around a lot of religious types growing up so that’s why there’s a lot of religious stuff in there. One of the guys he knew used to say “come on pilgrim” quite a bit( or it was in a song of theirs or something) hence the name of their first album
