This is one of those Pixies lyrics that actually makes concrete sense if you know what it's about first. It's dedicated to a real girl who existed called Edith who was hit by a car and killed while riding down a beach promenade on her bicycle. It happened in California. She never heard the car coming because she was playing music on her Walkman ("music on her (handle) bars"..."she got no got no fear of cars" etc.). Probably my favourite Pixies song.

Damn...I still remember my ex (who introduced me to the older gen of indie) made me a mixed CD with this song on it. I think he wanted to give me a feel for what music he listened to. Fell in love with The Pixies after hearing "Ed Is Dead" from the beginning, and after listening to their other albums, is still my favorite song from them. It still rocks my socks even 12 years later :D
