One thing missing from the dripstone cave is the chance for drowned to spawn in those caves, especially in the flooded dripstone caves. And this is significant because there is a chance for them to spawn with tridents, and a thrown trident can break pointed dripstone, which then has a chance to fall on your head (as if the trident itself wasn't bad enough).

I am using the same seed and that was the first ancient city that I have ever explored in Minecraft. And I kinda did it for only one reason: to get swift sneak enchantment. That is really an amazing enchantment, especially when I am building large structures and have to sneak on high places all the time.

Excellent as usual! small comment on "keep the shift button on speed dial" - honestly, no experts ever cover it, but my preference when crouching long term (bridging the void for example) is to go into options and change crouch from hold to toggle until I'm finished. Much easier on the pinky!

Mentioning this because I learned this the hard way when exploring the Deep Dark: Chests make noise when you open them and when you close them, so if opening one sets off a shrieker, closing it will probably also do that too. (I thought I was fine opening a chest when I was on my second strike, but then I closed it and it summoned the warden.)

If you're quick about it, then you can close it before the sensors can reset, but if you're just going to make the noise intentionally, it might be better to break the chest than open it

I don't think Mojang gets enough praise for how well they did the Caves and Cliffs update. Sure, it's not littered with a ton of, arguably useless, features you'd see in some tacky mod but what they did do was amazing. The update came out 2 years ago and I'm still constantly stopping in awe of different mountains, hills, cave openings, and otherworldly world generation.

This is really highlighting how much different of a game Minecraft is nowadays for me. I mean, you could still get some pretty cool generation back in the day (I believe when I started playing it was called Beta 1.7 or so), but wow, the generation for the caves are amazing (I mean, that hanging abandoned mineshaft is incredible), and the mountain ranges? Reading the Minecraft Wiki does note that because lush caves, dripstone caves and the deep dark generate based on the same information as the biomes, there is some correlation between surface biomes and cave biomes. (Basically Minecraft generates five 2-D patterns when creating the world, that look like the kinds of things you get when you ask Photoshop to generate a random cloud pattern. That means each X, Z location has 5 parameters associated with it: Temperature, Humidity (aka Vegetation), Continentalness, Weirdness, and Erosion. Lush caves generate at certain depths when the Humidity is high, which means they are not found under Plains and Savannah (for example), and are most likely found under Taiga, Dark Forests, and Jungles[1]. Dripstone caves need high Continentalness, hence they are rarely found in the ocean[2]. The Deep Dark needs low Erosion, so 'Mountain' is a good sign. ) [1] Strangely enough, deserts generate even when Humidity is high if the temperature is high enough. Hence occasionally seeing lone azalea trees in the desert marking that there's a lush cave below. [2] Continentalness raises the height of the average terrain, but that could just mean high 'normal' biomes rather than mountains.

Interestingly enough I also have an ancient city beneath my base area in my modded world, a valley inside a crescent shaped mountain range 😎 no abandoned mineshaft in between though, or dripstone cave, but there is this modded structure that's something like a village bunker, giving me a secure location for working with villagers 🤓

The 'left' side of the cherry mountain has a better string farm: a small cave with dungeon in it. You have to see it to believe it. Right outside your front door are some of the best spawners for the best farms. Bones, string and even zombies within walking distance! Amazing map seed. On the plus side, a lot of the floating mineshaft are slime chunks if you want to setup a classic pre-MumboJumbo-Swamp slime farm. Although the later is going to be much less work and much much higher output in 1.20. Finally, if you visit your desert village where the camels were, the deeper you go the more lush caves you'll find. The whole of the desert is shot through with amazing finds and strange terrain generation.

You really should build something in that dripstone cave sometime!
@TheRealWormbo
@TheRealWormbo Жыл бұрын
He already mentioned he'd like to find a dripstone cave below a mushroom biome, because that would be a relatively easy place for setting up a drowned farm, because they can spawn there. And while river-based drowned farms are have been sort-of the standard since 1.13 where they were introduced, dripstone caves are an even better place for a farm, since the drowned spawn in somewhat larger numbers there. (However, if you find dripstone below a mountain, check your Y coordinate - there will be neither drowned nor copper above sea level.)

I believe there is actually some correlation between surface and cave biomes, I've found that lush caves are very common under dark forests, dripstone under meadows and badlands, and the deep dark under mountainous terrain. @Pixlriffs

Deepslate coal has a shorter range it can generate in, because it doesn't appear any lower than Y=0, and deepslate ores only start generating a few blocks above that. It mathematically can't be the rarest ore, though, because of vein size and biome distribution. Coal can occur in larger veins, whereas emerald ore veins have a maximum of three blocks, and coal can be found in any biome, while emeralds can only be found mountain biomes and windswept hills.

12:45 this actually isn't true, cave biome generation relies on the same "multi-noise" system that surface biomes use. Deserts are just weird because they can generate in both dry and humid regions, unlike in real life. From the wiki: Lush caves generate underground at any altitude. They favor generating underneath biomes with high humidity values, which makes them most commonly found beneath dark forests, jungles, old growth taigas and wooded badlands. Dark forests, old growth taigas and bamboo jungles, in particular, are almost guaranteed to have lush caves generate below them, unless the lush caves are overwritten by dripstone caves. It is not possible for lush caves to generate beneath forests and grassland biomes like plains and savanna as they are not humid enough. Lush caves can sometimes generate beneath oceans and deserts, and are the only one of the three underground biomes capable of generating beneath oceans.

With the new 1.20.2 villager changes, how do you think they'll handle Villagers already present in the world? I've got ebery high-end enchantment from my librarians, and it took a long time to get. I don't want all that progress erased just cause I've updated. I've asked this on the Spawn Chunks, but I really want an answer so I'm asking it here, too.

The update would not change trained villagers, just new trade generation. Also, it's not for a 1.20.2 update - it was released as experimental, not a snapshot. It would be part of a larger update.

@asteria4279 that's how I hope it's going to work. I thought the plan was to introduce big content in the main updates, while keeping mechanic changes and things to the dot ones.

@@TugiFox yes, but the proposed villager changes would be pretty big 😄

Took you long enough to find the deep dark city. I discovered that weeks ago while making a staircase down to my diamond mine. I summoned the warden on a accident. Ya long story short I had to move my mine.
