You are absolutely right that the original Halloween isn't just a horror movie classic, but a classic is so true, yet even still it's understating its importance: Halloween is such a classic piece of cinema that it is preserved in the Library of Congress. That should tell you something; Halloween isn't just a big part of cinema history, it's a big part of American history!

Just pretend its called Season of the Witch, that's it. Problem solved. Besides the franchise is called Halloween, not Myers. The Halloween holiday was not the reason the first film worked, it could have been on any night and it would still work. Even the original title had nothing to do with Halloween.

I'm talking about the first film, the holiday was not the reason it worked, they could have called it, The Night He Comes Back and it would still work. Halloween 3 works with the holiday. Its 2018, till when are you going to get mad because its called Halloween 3? Already Carpenter wanted to get rid of him, he just made one movie and wanted to move on to something else. The ending of the original is the perfect way to end it by having his presence around the house and town. With the anthology direction, you can create a cinematic universe with the town of Haddonfield, its already a spooky place, so far we have Teenagers getting killed by Myers and Kids getting killed by a commercials. You can create cool new ideas with this type of Holiday. But no, people want to see the same thing over and over again, great, we ended up with Myers getting his ass kicked by Kung Fu Busta Rhymes...yai just what I wanted.....What else can you do with this character other than Return & Kill. I guess they should make new blu rays where Halloween 4 is Halloween 3. Like I said before, cover the words Halloween 3 and just read "Season of the Witch". Problem solved. The original title was The Babysitter Murders, nothing to do with Halloween. The people in charge wanted the title Halloween, because they wanted a holiday name they could use. Just like Black Christmas. So here comes Halloween 2018, same old thing, its H20 mixed with Sequel's greatest hits....nothing more you can do with this character.

I agree with RZ Halloween 2 (2009) being last place, it can't get worse than Michael Myers talking. Talking ruins him permanently even if sequels try to make up for it, it won't work because people can always say Michael Myers can speak, he just chose not to all those years and still just chooses not to, which kills every mystique permanently making him no longer scary. And I alsp agree with Halloween (1978) being in 1st place, nothing ever tops John Carpenter's original classic.

According to Bob Clark, Carpenter got the idea of making Halloween from having seen “Black Christmas”. In the mid seventies Carpenter asked Clark if he intended to make a sequel. Clark said no. Carpenter then asked: “ Still, if you were, what would it be about and what would you call it?” Clark replied: “It would be about the killer manage to escape from the institution and head back to town, and I think I would call it “Halloween!”

@@kailee87 - I'm no hater, i just like Halloween specifically for Michael. Same as Jason is why i like Friday the 13th. I just don't think Season of the Witch belongs in the Halloween series. It should just be titled "Season of the Witch" and kept out of the Halloween franchise. It's a good movie, but not if you're expecting your favorite slasher to show up, then you're let down.

My ranking of the Halloween movies: 11 Halloween Resurrection (2002) 10 Halloween 6 (1995) ---------------- 9 Halloween H20 (1998) 8 Halloween 5 (1989) ---------------- 7 Halloween 4 (1988) 6 Halloween III (1982) 5 Halloween II (2009 - Rob Zombie) ---------------- 4 Halloween II (1981) 3 Halloween (2007 - Rob Zombie) 2 Halloween (2018) 1 Halloween (1978) My 10th and 11th ranked Halloween movies are very painful to watch because Resurrection was just horrible and The Curse of Michael Myers was a cluster fuck due to the different versions that were created, Theatre version vs. director’s version vs. production company version. 8th & 9th ranked are watchable and somewhat enjoyable H20 was good but I felt the cinematography & story line was way too polished, it was missing an authentic quality. I seek a Raw & Natural look and feel to the Halloween movies. H5 is where the wheels came off the franchise because new elements were introduced that were poorly executed and not carried out properly, e.g. The Man In Black. Halloween 4 did an excellent job explaining the bridge in time between Halloween I & II which in the movie timeline which was 1978 to 1988’s H4 and Danielle Harris delivered a tremendous performance as the young niece of Michael Myers. Opening sequence of Halloween 4 deserves an A+ 5th-7th rank are solid movies delivering many factors that make a horror movie great like purpose and a plot that’s interesting that keeps the viewer eager for more. The Rob Zombie Halloween movies are epically great masterpieces. Remakes should always be the vision of the artist remaking the movies, not trying to 100% replicate the original movies. I am more interested in understanding the vision of the creator of the remake than fans feeling like they should dictate the character development, story lines, etc. My top 4 are the pillars and epic masterpieces that truly defines the Halloween movie franchise. There is something to be said about a movie franchise that sparks many debates and discussions on which Halloween movie ranks higher than the others. And the common theme is a movie created in 1978 designed to be a “one and done” suspense heart stopping like movie had such a deep and dynamic universe that was to be explored and discovered over the next 40 years.

Oh and it's worth mentioning the 4 mask is pretty bad (worse than the 5 one you mentioned). My plans for Halloween night? Those being (at least in my opinion): Halloween (1978), Halloween 2 (1981), Halloween 4, Halloween (2018)...but with amazing films also come bad ones... The main purpose of me writing this is boredom at 3AM, but for the person in the comments who winds up reading this as well. The belief of what makes Michael Myers (The Shape) scary is the absence of character...of no real emotions other than physical movements...hence why he is called "A Shape". Because of him lacking any real human emotions in the First and Second films, I tend to think of those films a continuation. But one being more suddle and restrained in its scares and its impact. At least until the end. As at the end of Halloween (1978, the intensity and ramping anxiety from the first few parts of the film has reached its climax and everything (as most people say) has went to shit. Whereas in Halloween 2 (1981), the action is more in your face and the story feels more like a half assed thing that Carpenter wrote while he was drinking a few beers and smoking a cigar. The acting is overall nowhere near the level of the first film (Mainly talking about the side characters). And The Shape isnt really a Shape anymore. More like just EVIL. Which yes Loomis referred to Michael as Evil in the classic 1978 film. But to be fair he was meaning that he was evil in the sense of that he wasnt all there. That Michael has no meaning in life but to kill. In Halloween 2, Michael just seems to kill anything and anyone in the most brutal fashion possible. Draining out someone's blood from their own body. Or lifting a Nurse up by a scalpel and then dropping her to the floor. This film keeps some elements of Halloween (1978). Like the stalking scenes and the overall tone at the beginning of the movie. But for me it has always felt (just a little bit) different than the Original one.

Now as far as Halloween 3, I will not be talking about the plot of it due to it not really having anything to do with (The Myers Saga). Halloween 4 is a mess but a good mess. Like when you half assed something and it turns out okay. You can tell in some scenes that the writers care about the franchise, but in others they simply just don't or was under a time restraint or deadline. They made the mask look awful and funny instead of blank, pale and emotionless. The acting is amazing from Danielle Harris and Donald Pleasance...but that's really all I can say on that front. You can really tell that they was intending this movie to be a "Made for TV Movie". Due to there being no Nudity and very little profanity and what fore there was, wasnt over the top. It feels more like a sequel to me to Halloween 2 than Halloween 1. Now as far as the music goes I love the music for this film. Even though it has some weird parts in the score, I adore Alan Howarth's renditions of these beloved melodies and themes. Overall it's a "Back to Formula" movie and doesnt really do anything new that Halloween 1 and 2 didnt do other than add some new-ish characters and introduce a new storyline. But I like it and think it's good. But could've been miles better...

Now we move to H5, a mess and the first real misstep in the franchise...the movie isnt garbage but I dont like it. The mask is too elongated and dumb looking, they changed Myers ethnicity (which isnt a race thing as much of a continuity issue. If a character is established as one race or gender, dont bend it to fit your needs or whatever...). And on top of that it has one of the worst things to happen to the franchise..."The Man in Black". I dont like the angle and it is dumb to shoehorn him in. Ooooof, spooky...he is kicking a doggy...scary😐. Anyway, Danielle Harris and Donald Pleasance is once again amazing in their respective roles. Now as for the rest of the movie. It's just Halloween 4 repackaged and rebranded....that's it basically. New characters for Myers to slaughter but that's basically all the new things. Oh and Jaimie Lloyd is a psychic and is linked to Michael. Which is supposed to help Loomis find Michael. And Michael has a Thorne Tattoo which is there because why not😐. Overall this is a low point in the franchise and personally the only good things are the Loomis scenes and the ending in my eyes...oh and Jamie's scenes...that's it. Moving on lol...

Now we move to Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers...I actually dig this one. Even though it's not as good as some of its predecessors. It has a badass Michael and Loomis is even more badass than in H4 to me... everyone hates this one but I think its underrated. My main concern and issue with this film is the cult and all of the Thorne shit. Because all of that took what H5 set up and tried to fix it. Which I commend the writer on attempting to do. But overall it left to many plot holes. So I can see why many people dont dig this one as much as some other movies in the franchise. Jamie being impregnated with Michael's baby was weird and gross. The acting is overall pretty decent compared to H4s standards and the score is badass. Michael Myers theme meets metal...hell yea!🦇🎃

Now we have the retcon sequel. A sequel that (to me) will never live up to the "Thorne Trilogy" and the "Strode Saga/Myers Saga" of Halloween 1 and 2. Halloween: H20....20 years later. Now before you say something about my comments, remember. These are MY opinions...so with that out of the way. Let's continue... H20 has a love relationship with me the first time I saw it. I thought it could never be topped as a sequel. But then I rewatched Halloween 4-6 and remembered that how flawed they are, they still felt like Halloween. Had traces of the original even in the smallest of ways. I could still find some sort of H1 feel even if it's not alot. Then I rewatched H20 and it just felt like Scream. A rushed Sequel, just to earn money and get people hyped for the next movie. Now it just feels cheap. And very much like a rip off of Scream instead of a official Halloween Sequel. H20 has since went to a low spot on my tier ranking due to the acting. The poor concepts, no atmosphere and very little character development. Instead of Laurie actually opening up to people about her baggage from 1978. The movie was instead trying to retcon the 4-6 series and trying to feel like Scream. Which doesnt do the movie any favors. Mainly because Scream is respected as being a 90's Slasher and a Slasher movie introducing new fans to the horror slasher franchise. Which isnt a bad thing, but it just isnt Halloween. Halloween has a certain feel. A certain tone, that this movie for me...this movie just doesnt come close too. Plus it was released during the summer and doesnt even feel like the Halloween season past the first 20 minutes. Just not Halloween. It only feels like Halloween 1 and 2 at the beginning. The alcoholic Laurie was barely a plot point. Laurie's trauma is barely explored. And Jaimie Lee Curtis seems like she was just there for a paycheck. Which you can tell from her bland acting from this one. Now Halloween: H20 has a horrible score. At least to me it just seems bland and uninspired. As the music is mostly just Screams Soundtrack, with only some original compositions. Out goes the synth/piano music from John Carpenter and Alan Howarth. In comes the oddly sounding orchestral versions of the classic Halloween Soundtrack. Which barely is recognizable as the same music due to it being mostly overly orchestrated and way too complicated to feel like Halloween. So with the minor issues out of the way, we get to the Myers from this movie. He feels to small. Like how does a 6"1 man go from that to like 5"8. Also not to mention that Myers looks goofy. To me the H20 Mask (Main one, not the other ones) looks goofy and the eyes should have been blacked out. Now as for a basic sculpt...its okay. But the hair throws it off....its way to frizzy and it is split down the middle. Just a weird mask...Its better than H5 and H4's mask. But it just doesnt look better than H6 and Halloween 1 and 2's mask (Yes I know that H1 and H2 had the same mask). Overall the best part of the movie is the final fight between Myers and Laurie. The Death of Myers is the single best part of the movie. But due to Halloween: Ressurection and how bad the retcon was for that. It just doesnt feel the same knowing that Myers isnt alive. It's just not as great as the first time I saw H20. Overall if you like scream, you will like this. But if you dont. You probably would want to watch Halloween 2018...

Halloween: Ressurection..I dont like this movie. It takes everything H20 tried to set up, and just shit on it. The best part is the opening scene. Then after Laurie dies (in a dumb way), we just get introduced to some horny teens who just want to be on a live TV show. Going to The Myers house just to be pranked by Busta Rhymes in a Michael Myers mask. They die due to them invading Myers home and then the final girl stand off happens and Busta karate kicks Michael and then bam....the end. Yea, I am not going in depth on this so yea lol...

Happy Halloween piz! I think far more credit to the new Halloween 2018 was appropriate in your review video. This new one is smashing the franchise box office records ,well over 100 million and certified fresh by fans and critics alike. Everyone I know feel it's the best along with 1981 second one as the two best sequels. The new Carpenter score,involvement was key , Jamie did fantastic,JJC was a great Shape,and cool cameo by Castle and PJ Soles. I love the movie so so much as I suffer daily from crippling effects of Trauma and PTSD. The story returned Michael to the force of nature boogeyman again...I'm surprised on this list video the amazing positives....a cinema score of audiences at B+ and 75% fan score of RT shows most fans love this. There are loud ranting haters but they are far outnumbered. I absolutely was appalled by the sausage factory episode. I keep trying to tune in and enjoy SF but it's filled by grumpy hating negativity my certain particpents almost each time. Including Rambo's rant that wasn't a part this time and it's depressing garbage. We are taking 40 years later we have possibly the best Halloween next to original. To me it was a return to magic of Carpenter creation and his score combined with good direction from Green was refreshing and it had good characters and acting. The shape was stalking in the background,dark,and we followed him at times with shots like original 2 films. I agree with your top 5 completely but was surprised you left out the success at box office and how most fans enjoy it. We got finally another classic Halloween film in year 2018 and to have it hailed by critics and fans alike is special and a huge accomplishment for what is essentially Halloween 11. I've seen it 3 times Piz and can honestly say I just love it more and more each viewing and recommend that for you too. Not a watch once film. It like the classic Halloween 1 ,2, and 4 has re-watch ability all over it! I see more positive for this film than most horror movies and I am beyond proud of the movie they made for us.
