I strongly feel the character has some mental health issues. She tells her story of how she was so depressed to the point where she didn't want to get out of bed, life was meaningless to her and she was struggling with depression, but making pizza brought back meaning to her life. She goes from being in a depressive state to suddenly finding meaning in something due to a sudden realization. Her reason for why she found contentment in what she did is pretty worrisome to say the least... finding contentment in being detached of any kind of human or emotional connection is slightly alarming. I do not think she lied about feeling content in the way she worked. The way she elaborately explains how she thinks about her job and how in the end she also says 'that's all I have don't take that away from me' it's like she's almost scared of going back to being depressed after finding a cure, she was very anxious of that being taken away from her, that could mean someone must have told her it wasn't healthy for her to continue in this way. I'm assuming the person recording was either her therapist or some friend who wanted to record her condition. Just speculations.. but I just thought it was weird for her to suddenly overcome depression with a dissociative theory about her work.. Maybe she suffers from anxiety of being attached to someone or something. I'm no psychiatrist but this is certainly a mental illness of some sort.

makes me look back to 3 years ago to when I finally had some experience under my belt at a pizzaria working up from dish to salad and my manager finally started training me on pizza. I had been severally depressed for over a year following a rough relationship and bad break up but once i started doing pizza i thought i was moving up in the world and cried over the fact i was given the chance to improve. now after working there for 4 years im miserable as ever and this video completely sums up how i feel. all i do is work eat and sleep and its all i have to support myself

i have 2 interpretations about this. 1. this girl clearly enjoys her job, it being "the only thing" she has, and she isn't being sarcastic, despite her monotone voice. 2. this girl despises her job, but speaks good about it due to her manager possibly filming her for an interview about her job. she is supposed to say good things so she doesn't get fired or something, and she obliges because it's all she has.

To me it feels like a satire of the weird devotion you're expected to perform for even the most menial job. Like certainly do your best at work, but its grotesque the way jobs expect you to act like stocking shelves, making pizzas, etc is your life goal and the company is as important as your family and life (especially during the application/interview process). This video shows what someone with those kind of values would actually look like, and its unsettling.

I can't tell if this is depressing (She only has making pizza and she can only enjoy that) Or heartwarming (She finds so much joy in mundane tasks) Or creepy (she freakishly admires, almost romanticizes, making pizzas for strangers, and the eerie atmosphere) Or ironic/funny (How commercials will madly exaggerate how great their company/product is by recording an employee/customer saying ridiculously positive things about them) And i think that's genious. Such a simple little short film, nothing super fancy visually or audibly, little to no plot or story or super tragic moments. Usually those would be all negative traits to a short film, but to convey so many potential messages, intentionally or not, through such otherwise basic circumstances is what makes it stand out. Idk how people view this character as being happy or content with their self or their job because when I worked part time at a pizza place as a teen I felt similar feelings but wasn't happy. Making pizzas was fun when I first started. Aligning toppings to make sure there was some on every slice, so that the person who would eat the pizza would enjoy it, and smiling at customers and telling them to have a nice day all felt fulfilling as labor to the point I even thought I wouldn't mind working at that pizza place for a longtime. Making good pizzas and having customers like it, even though they didn't know I made it joy, pride even. After a few months though, I was faced with the paradoxical feeling of dreading my job outside of work but enjoying it while I was there. It was like some kind of switch, at work I was a happy slave and at home I hated the very thought of stepping into that pizza place and working a shift. The only conclusion I've come up with to MY feelings was that physical labor does make people happy to an extent because it shows results you can see and your body feels worked out. I also didn't have much outside of work other than school, which felt mundane. So the joy that came from working was kind of like a clutch for me. I overlooked the weird behaviors of my manager and low pay because it was one of the few things that did bring satisfaction to my life. Given my personal experience, I really don't think this character has much in their life. The character even admits it by saying "Making pizzas is all I got. You can't take that away from me". Plus, Even though there is a person recording their response, I still believe this character does not have any strong social connections either due to the lack of mention of family and friends. People tend to stray off topic when asked about themselves yet our character never mentioned even a simple sentence about their life outside of their pizza job. anyways watching this made me wanna quit my part-time job lmao TL;DR: As someone who had a pizza job, I am projecting onto the character in my interpretation that they are lost in their sense of purpose outside their job.

According to me, this was a perfect depiction of how exaggerated the advertisements and people nowadays are. The first line she said, "Making Pizza definitely saved my life" is very similar to how most of the ads showcase their products to be nowadays. For example: "This product literally changed my life" "I have been using this for quite a while now and I don't think I can go a single day without it" etc,etc are the current favourite pickup lines for influencers. But we all know the truth, don't we? Yet the way she keeps talking and exaggerating about things, even though we know it's ridiculous we almost believe her. That's exactly what the commercials are doing. They make you see a sob story and you are sold. Another disturbing thing is how 'deep talk' is being depicted here. The way she says "It's like one day something changed inside me. You can look at it as fate or prophecy, either way, it's same" or "Making pizza is all I've got, you can't take that away from me" Tell me you haven't heard the same kind of bullshit ever before? The way she is saying things is very very similar to how people try to show their extreme passion for things that they say they love doing. Also when she said "When you are young it's easy to think that life is meaningless but now my existence is truly fulfilled. After home, I get to go home and look at myself and think today I made 100 pizza for customers that don't even know I exist and made no correlation between the food they are eating and a working human being. In 24 hours the food they eat will be out of their body forever and they nor I will ever think about that pizza again." one might actually believe that this is a great philosophical idea but in reality, she is saying that her life is still as meaningless as it was back when she was young. She makes pizza for people who don't even care about who made it. In the end, after 24 hours that pizza will be out if their systems flushed in some toilet. She was being so sarcastic when she said that making pizza is all she wanted to do in her life. She still has left no mark of her existence. And day by day her life is just being wasted.

This. I relate to this so hard. I am a pizza fanatic. I worked in pizza for 6-7 years. After some time I even became a store manager. It was my life, my store was my sanctuary, my crew were my flock and family. It defined me, I was the pizza girl. Pizza helped me work through most of my neuroses like agoraphobia, I conquered so many fears I felt a slave to. I was no longer depressed because I had a responsibility and reward. I became a strong, confident leader. Pizza filled me with purpose and satisfaction. I miss pizza. I'm heartbroken. This has me in tears, it hit so close to home. Your art is phenomenal.

As someone who works at Little Caesars for $7.50/hr, I felt this. It's so depressing and numbing not knowing if or when I'll be able to find anything better and I'm afraid of becoming someone like this who feigns joy in her work for the sake of keeping my job, even though I know I absolutely hate it and it sucks and I get paid too little for doing so much work. The line "Today I made hundreds of pizzas for customers that don't know I exist, and made no correlation with the food they're eating and a working human being" really hit hard, because far too many people treat customer service workers like they're not even human beings and from first-hand experience, that shit sucks. Like we already hate coming to do extremely mundane work while being underpaid, we don't need to be yelled at and treated like sub-humans because of something that's usually not even in our control- and even if it was something in our control, we're still humans who are capable of making mistakes. My personal take is that they genuinely felt a sense of purpose from this job, but they realize on paper, it's a pretty shallow existence. It's kind of an existentially unsettling experience to realize that you're happy, but that you didn't choose it, and it's probably just because you have nothing else. It's kind of nice to think of that someone can do repetitive menial labor and be happy and find purpose in it, but is happiness and a sense of purpose really all you should want from an occupation? Don't we feel called to define ourselves and to take life as a great adventure? Accepting your lot in life is key to being happy, or is it? Do I genuinely choose this, or am I afraid of trying something else, or do I genuinely think this is all I'll ever be good for, and that trying to change will simply torture me, and make me hate myself for being unable to change? Or maybe I'll just stick with a regular job, finding what meaning that I can. This is getting long winded and you can bet that I'm applying a bit of myself to this, but some good art can bring stuff like that out of you.

It's so powerful, the amount of interpretations this can have but one I haven't read is the parallelism of content makers, they do amazing illustrations or deep/beautiful animations/movies/short films, those are the pizzas and their creators and people who worked with them are the employees that deliver the pizza to thousands of people and they consume it, despite of the fact they are going to forget it and they make no correlation of the humans behind this, but they are happy because their message is seen by the people, even if the people don't know who create that work. I think this has somewhat a sarcastic meaning but in a depressing way. She knows that she lies to herself that making pizza is the only thing that makes her happy but while repeating this everyday, she must believe in her self-concocted lie, because it is still better to do this, to go on with it, than falling into depression again. „You can’t take that away from me“ is actually a cry for help imo. It describes her loneliness, since she‘s being filmed all along (by her boss?) and the boss wouldn’t help her to reach a new level of happiness, he is too concerned with his own personal growth. So, her expression is ambiguous. I love these animations so much. So creative!

I think thats what also makes this piece so wholesome. The idea that Vewn gets to tell us how she truly feels about being able to create and how you can’t take that away from her but didn’t want to be to direct so she puts her own unique original Vewn spin to it and turns the center topic to pizza. This is pure sarcasm contrast. Making pizza changed my life (ads are colorful, but life stays the same) I love this channel so much. The lines and dialogues are refined and meaningful. Psychedelic music and graphics. Make it ironic and cynical. Many people watch to make it like Shakespeare's Hamlet, and everyone understands it differently.

I think this is like those promo videos with employees from for example Mc Donald’s telling about how they love their job and it’s their passion and stuff but we all know you work there because you need money. And working as a fast food employee is one of the most dead end unrewarding jobs because the customers don’t give a shit about who made their food and you barely make any money.
