I've been listening to Pizzicato Five since the 90s and I've never seen any of their videos until today. I used to buy their CDs any time I found a new one in a store.

Same here! I was a teenager in the late 90s and it was very difficult to find jpop CDs. Luckily theirs made their way to the US so it was possible to get their music. But I too had never seen their videos.

R U ME? I think the reason for my exposure was because in the late 90s and early 2000s there was a big push to market Japanese pop culture as cool, and Pizzicato Five just happened to be one of the cultural exports selected by the handful of curators deciding what we should be exposed to. I'm glad it was this band. You should go check out Cornelius, he's still very active on KZbin.

iknowrite??? samesies. i few months ago i fell into a buffalo daughter rabbit hole cos id Never seen a single video. this is only the second p5 vid ive seen yet ive had their albums for 20 yrs.
Well, considering it is entirely based on previous musical styles, and they are continuing some of them here, that is not surprising and is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Lyrics When the angels smile Love begins As the angels smile Love is alright It will be alright This morning Just before I woke up I had this short dream I can't remember it Very well just in flashes Those angels whispered Whispered in my ears Wondrous love words I thought I knew from somewhere It is a bright Morning Just like all the others but I sort of feel different For no apparent reason I'm just happy It's like today Is the day To begin a new love When the angels smile etc Love begins When the angels smile Love is alright It will be alright This strange hunch In the new morning This wonderful hunch As the phone rings I can tell from the sound It is you Some strange news You whisper In my ear Wonderful love words I'd been waiting for In the looking-glass I'm putting on This brand-new Shirt I don't know why I like myself today More than usual It's like The first day of A new Season When the angels smile A new love begins As the angels kiss Two people make love The camera goes on A strange hunch In a new morning A wonderful hunch In the light I'm hugging Myself Today Don't know why I feel like crying It's just like The beginning of A new love today Like that dream I once saw is now Becoming reality When the angels smile etc Love begins When the angels smile Love is alright It will be alright On this new morning A strange hunch A wonderful hunch A new love Song
This gives me all of those smooth sunny spring morning feels of late 90s Western indie pop like Stereolab, Broadcast, and early Belle & Sebastian. I am happy to add this to that.

I discovered this song back in early 2003 or 2004; can't quite remember exactly when, but I loved it then, and I still love it today. I believe the song was released in 1997, but it has such an iconic late 60's vibe and look, it is just wonderful.
I was about to enter college when this band's videos started coming out on Mtv, and it was so refreshing to listen to something extremely different from what trendy pop music was back then. Always among my fav sounds from back then.
