That's because she is the goddess of the universe and way too powerful and if she speaks too loudly everything will be instantly destroyed.

Thank you for including the portion of the interview. Deeply saddened she only booked two gigs in the U.S. I don't live anywhere near them. Loving the new album and the message behind it. I've been reading negative articles and comments about the style and choice of her lyrics that she expresses about the casualties we face in our world. I see nothing wrong with them. They paint a very clear picture of what she is singing about. I guess they find comfort and understanding from lyrics about getting turnt up in a club with a big booty assed girl who will give it up on the first date.

Amazing. There comes a point when an artist is so inspired, bold and committed that anything they produce is worth paying serious attention to, and learning of new material is such an exciting event. Only wine and Polly get better with age.

I think the album is uneven but Community of Hope makes me cry every time I hear it - such a brutal, wonderful anthem for the marginalised - it baffles me that people read it so wrongly. And at 46 she looks more beautiful than ever.
@jane---4898 жыл бұрын
In what way do people "read it so wrongly" ?
@weepingcross8 жыл бұрын
I've seen it described as cynical, sarcastic and bleak, whereas to me it's angry, defiant and compassionate (an impression which comes from the music and the surrounding material rather than the lyric). Could just be me seeing what I want to see, of course.
@jane---4898 жыл бұрын
weepingcross I don't think what you describe means that people are reading it " so wrongly " Just interpreting it differently to how you feel it's meaning to be, everyone has their own individual take ...

I’m afraid me talking is a waste of time. Similar age to pj and I admire her so much, my opinion maybe skewed. But for what it’s worth, one day she’ll get the recognition she deserves. Strong Dorset woman is pj. Very lucky that there are ‘us’ that recognises this. I recommend listening to pj on John peel sessions, particularly rid of me 1991 or 92. Incredible x

lets be real, shes singing about people singing for their salvation and in their little world even a wallmart (in there eyes) would be the seed to transform their community.
@johnhendersonclark8 жыл бұрын
+spitfirefrench My point was that when the Walton's came here, they promised 6 stores, 3 east of the river which they never built. It was a big deal: first is wages. They came to DC at a time when the minimum wage bills in DC and the inter MD counties were making a pact for $11.50. Second is having any place could to work and to shop. I drive Uber so I know this: I pick up and drop off Wallmart workers who have to spent an hours wage getting to and from the stores.
@samanthas39098 жыл бұрын
Would Walmart have helped things in the area?
@johnhendersonclark8 жыл бұрын
Samantha S it was promised they would build east of the River in order to get around the vast opposition to even being allowed to build in DC. They lied.
@samanthas39098 жыл бұрын
So do you think the last line of the song is hopeful in an ironic way -- "They're gonna put a Walmart here." Like to show how things are so devastated that even building a Walmart would improve things?

Don't understand why she doesn't use her voice in low register anymore. She doesn't even use lower voice when playing her old songs from 90s (which require low voice). Feels like she's holding back for some reason.

I think the thing we all expect when P.J. puts out a new record is a big departure from the previous one. I don't see that so much this time. She's kind of travelling the same roads just taking different avenues cos she still has an axe to grind with the world with regards to the mindless warring, violence and suffering that goes on. Good on her!!!!!
@jane---4898 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I do not think that you can speak for me when you say "we all expect" I expect absolutely nothing when it comes to polly's exquisite music, she always resonates with me in such a beautiful way, but my feeling isn't so strong with her new songs, I do not have any rational reason why I feel so... Making any criticism or judging PJ just isn't an option for me, I love and respect her too much : )
@renjay37438 жыл бұрын
***** What I mean is she never stays in the same place for long and always moves into other areas musically and lyrically. Every record has been quite different from the previous one (that's what I mean by expect). This time I found the narrative especially to be very similar to the last record which surprised me a little. My opinion of P.J. Harvey is she can do no wrong and as a songwriter myself I don't think there's anyone I pay closer attention to. I think "The wheel" is a great song as is "Near the memorials to Vietnam and Lincoln." But this isn't the record I'll put on to introduce P.J. Harvey to anyone who is unfamiliar with her work.

Doesn't work for me. It's not the irony of the lyrics, or the subject matter, it's the detached manner of the delivery. She has to be in there, involved - Civil War Correspondent was far more effective as a protest song. Performances of early stuff like Rid Of Me & Rub Till It Bleeds were masterpieces, extraordinary & downright scary. I understand what she's trying to do, but I just don't think it works. But she must progress (she always has) & I'm hopeful I can engage with her next incarnation.

After 60-odd years of rock music, pretty much every possible chord progression has now been used, so that seems like a very pedantic criticism. But this doesn’t even sound like the Beatles at all tbh.
