No what he's saying is stupid because he's ignoring the effect of hormones, namely insulin and its effect on serum glucose. If hormones weren't important then bodybuilders wouldn't take steroids.

I've found if you want to keep muscle the best cardio is incline walking. I always stay in the bottom end of my target heart zone. I keep my BPM at roughly 115. For me that's walking at about 3.5-4 MPH at 8-10 on the incline. Same with a recumbent bike, I do it at 115 BPM so for me that's roughly 90+ RPM at 7-8 resistance. I'll try for 30 minutes of one, and 30 minutes of the other on cardio days. What I don't like about "high intensity" is there's a lot of potential there for injury. Unless by high intensity you mean up to like maybe 80%. And even then that should be a seldom. Also high intensity isn't something you can just jump into. You have to take time to develop your body, your muscles, joints, tendons. For example: If somebody goes from the couch into all out sprinting they're likely to hurt themselves. That person needs a comprehensive plan including lifting, stretching, plyometrics, etc. and easing into it so the body is prepared for the rigors and stress that high intensity effort can place on it.. I'm only saying because that's one I learned the hard way. Although I didn't injure myself, and I was fairly younger, in my old age I realize I was playing with fire 😂

Are there any studies that you know that specifically link metabolism with proper respiratory function (breathing through the nose vs. mouth breathers). The first trend that comes to mind is like Wim Hof, but otherwise, are there any way to link good metabolism with the way you breathe? And can you provide some tips on how marathon runners maintain good breathing rhytm during long distance races? Even 800m how it transitioned from a long distance race to more of a sprint in recent years.

Pretty sure the evidence doesn’t necessarily support your thoughts. When looking at the big picture, joint health is only compromised when there is an absence of adequate nutrition and rest. Need to check the source though, can’t remember how recent the last study I read was.

@@SaquibAR Jogging isn't bad for your joints, what I think he's talking about is when overweight people try to loose weight, they have a tendency to "over-stride" and they brake during foot strike because they can't effectively achieve peak hip extension. The same thing can be seen when people run but because they're in flight it's not as evident, the best thing to do for overweight people is to ride or use the cross trainer until they are at a weight that allows them to drive off the ground effectively. If I've missed something let me knw =)

I personally love sprints 2-3 days per week just to build power and work capacity. But I've never done them with fat loss in mind. Being mindful of calories, raising TDEE with a lot of walking, and maintaining muscle with lifting to raise BMR does way more for overall fat loss. 💯

hey paul what do you think about calisthenics especially paired with basketball... ist it safe for the joints and for my wrists?
@gabedominguez1799
@gabedominguez1799 Жыл бұрын
I’m of course not Paul. The bones, joints, and soft tissue will adapt according to the loads put on them so as long as you are gradually progressing and not going straight to pushups on the backs of your hands I’d say you should be fine and might even end building resistance to injury by applying the types of forces that calisthenics puts on the upper extremities over time.

4:30 your body doesn’t adapt that fast or linearly, definitely not 50 calories the next session. Those this mean you’re burning 400 instead of 500 on your second session for the same distance or are you burning 100 calories on your eighth session? Even if it did, you’d make up the difference by increasing pace, never getting a full sprint pace of course

Just wondering if you don't have enough carbs to burn, what is getting burned. It's kinda one sided. And if you are on keto or low carb. low intensity is the best way to burn fat without getting fatigued
@cecilsmith24
@cecilsmith24 3 жыл бұрын
Your body can actually burn the proteins in the muscles if you aren't careful with your diet. The body will consume fat when you are in the aerobic cycle which is usually around zone 2 heart rate. Above that is anaerobic and carb burning. Remember the human body is a machine that is determined to keep the fat as much as possible for survival, it wants to give up the fat last even if you want it to go first.

Of course we burn more the fuel we put in. To burn body fat and lose weight, we need caloric deficit; not rocket science:) But, we crave on carbs and fat makes/keeps us full. That is why, keto was easy for me, lost 25lbs in 8 months without trying and just gained 5 back in a year after i quit it. So, high fat/low carb was easier for me and sustainable (less craving/rebound). Fyi

@@Ccubed92 yes and no. Body adapts. I did it, middle distance and endurance is ok. But, you are right about explosive, reactive sports (basketball, sprinting etc.) Carb just before, burn it off, back to low carb after event and, no craving, high sugar.

hey Paul, have you ever looked into anti-diet dietitians? They suggest that you never restrict calories, but eat a good variety of foods, eat til satiation to follow intuitive eating, and dont over exercise. we know that different types of exercise, genetics and muscle fiber type, determine how much body fat your body wants and what foods you will crave to fit your needs.

Not necessarily, there a lot more that goes into it, they are hungry for a reason... there are plenty of people who eat a lot and are thin, there’s more to it than they are fat cause they can’t control intake. Quality of nutrition matters also

Liu Sam I didn’t mention anywhere this was for longevity, as demands increase so does appetite, just look at Michael Phelps. This is just a question to see if he had seen the theory that monitoring food by numbers is not the best method because every person and demands are different, that’s why we have a mind and instincts. We need to feel satisfied with our food not just full
@sethdossett1304
@sethdossett1304 4 жыл бұрын
@@liusam651 maybe but has this been tested and proven wrong? i think we may be drawing conclusions too early...Also i said nothing about eating whole foods. high performance changes appetite to eat more, if the body feels satisfied then is that enough? if i crave higher carbohydrates cause im sprinting outside then that is intuitive. If i am following a certain guideline of calories/protien/fats etc im allowed, and i need more in a certain area how will i know but by intuition? if i need more protien wont i be drawn to more protein rich foods that satisfy my needs, and if i dont need as much protein, but im eating too much of it, is it taking a toll on my body to digest and not be satisfied to follow a numbers rule based on averages? These are questions that i think we need to consider to get a full picture thats why i was asking Paul if he's heard of it... Also i am not the information just the medium so they probably explain the information much better than in the comment section.
