The Ketogenic or Keto diet has gotten A LOT of media coverage in the last few years. I decided to follow up my original Keto video with one where I actually try out the diet for myself.
I was not surprised that the keto diet was difficult to stick to because of the restrictive nature of it. However, the weight loss and other benefits were definitely noticed and fairly early on into the diet.
If you have an idea of something you want me to cover in depth, please let me know because I take your requests seriously. We will be back with more Medical Drama Review Series this Sunday so please submit more names of shows/episodes you'd like for me to watch. Love you all!

Long work hours get in the way of a relationship, no matter who's involved. Especially if said hours are stressful and irregular - you just don't have enough energy at the end of the day to deal with people. And if the other person's particularly attention-hungry, that reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally fucks things up.

my mom had a diabetic scare in july of 2021, her blood sugar was around 470 and she switched to keto instantly with no hesitation. it’s now February 2022 and she’s lost about 50lbs and she can now sometimes have dessert at dinner and is introducing more carbs into her diet. You can definitely eat salad, veggies, and some fruit like strawberries and blackberries. It's also about net carbs, meaning total amount of carbs minus fiber. Coffee during the morning/mid-day helped me during IF, and Keto Ice Cream (erythritol) helped with cravings.

@sevenember3332
@sevenember3332 3 ай бұрын
It’s not so much “flushing out toxins” as it is forcing your body to start using fat as its fuel source instead of carbs. You crave carbs more intensely during that time (at least I did, esp. sweets) because your body hasn’t made the switch yet and that’s the cause of fatigue

Your keto journey was very different from mine. I’ve been doing keto for five years now. I will say it is very hard socially and you definitely have to plan your meals and snacks but personally I do like it. I do break sometimes and that’s tough becoming one donut becomes a whole pizza for dinner but when I am strong and stick with it I see results quickly. When I started I didn’t have the flu either because I was told to keep my electrolytes up and that worked for me. I know when im in ketosis or not based on my energy. When I’m in ketosis my mind so clear and I am full of energy (not hyper or jittery) and when I break keto I just wana sleep all day and my mind goes crazy. Overall it works for me but it does take discipline. What helped me in the beginning was counting my macros and looking up every ingredient of what I ate. After I figured that out, I don’t have to be so strict and it’s much easier for me now. The last thing I’ll say is that for the last year I’ve reduced my fat intake so I primarily eat protein and try to stay below 20 meg carbs a day… o li don’t even worry about adding fat it is what it is. Thank you for sharing your journey and I hope to see an update on any new thoughts on the low carb diet in general.

I have been doing keto for 10 years, but can certainly relate to what you had to go through to get where you are. You are awesome. I would love to see more keto videos from you. I lost a huge amount of weight when I did keto. Unfortunately I'm prone to eating disorders and took keto and dieting to an extreme, and was told by my doctor and therapist to stop keto so we could come up with a new plan. Then I gained all that weight back x2. My brother and his wife had huge big success doing keto long term.

You forgot to comment that the keto diet got started to fight epilepsy and has made a renewal in past years for the same reason. Also, true keto is much stricter (higher fats and lower carbs or not necessarily figuring net carbs) and what the average dieter calls keto for the purpose of weight loss, is more like the modified Atkins diet (or modified ketogenic diet) for the purpose of seizure control. Though the strict ketogenic diet has been found to be successful for many children with epilepsy, the modified versions (lower fat, higher protein, and slightly higher carbs) is successful with about 50% of adults who try it.

I say unintentionally because I wasn't aware I was doing it. I just became so fearful of eating anything with carbs and sugar. Like, I literally broke down crying when my nutritionist scolded me and told me to eat bread... but, I continued with my keto. And I not only lost 40 pounds, but my sight returned. So, yeah... This was the number one video on keto today. If you’re tired there’s MCT oil and other things that give you energy on keto. I wish like another comment said that you had done pre and post oral glucose tolerance, insulin level, triglycerides and lipid panel because this can be DRAMATIC. I found some pretty helpful information on keto from a chiropractor named Eric Berg. I’m an MD and highly skeptical of a lot of things on line. But the science checks out.

Like I mentioned in my other comment, on Keto, your body begins to eat the fat within you. This gets rid of your excess fat as well as supplys you with constant energy and stops your energy levels from dropping and rising. Also, the cravings are from your lack of sugar. The sugar in things increase your cravings, sometimes, you can even mistake your cravings for hunger. Do not snack either, because everytime your eat, you raise Insulin, which isn't good to do all the time. (Hold back on the nuts too...) This is why it is much better to rather have 2 large, fatty meals with a great amount of salad with it in a day. If you snack between meals, it could also take you out of Ketosis and set you back a day or 2, depending on what you have. My family has been doing the Keto diet for about a month, and it is NOT just for weight loss. It has improved our energy, skin, my mother's hair has started growing back and looking fresh as ever. On top of it all, it has fixed mine, my brother's and my father's 'Leaky Gut' and has cured my father's crazy psoriasis (which he's had for about 6 years). It has also saved my other brother from getting diabetes. Keto is the way folks! 😁

I have been diabetic since 2007. I have struggled with weight my entire life. I have just recently started Keto. I have found that I have to constantly check my glucose levels because I am hanging between 80 and 88. I usually have a low during the middle of the night and have to eat or drink something to bring it back up. I feel that this brings me out of ketosis sometimes. The struggle is real but I will figure it out. Being pills and insulin dependent for my diabetes, it makes it really hard to keep my sugars high and low enough. Great video, thanks for posting.

I am already off one of my diabetes meds and have lost 15 pounds. One thing I would like to ask. As you cleaned your kitchen of all the non Keto items, were any of them donated to a food pantry? I saw a lot of waste there, especially with the fruits. When I cleaned out my pantry, I donated anything unopened and unexpired that I could. Hunger is a real problem in this country. I lost more than he did by just going on a calorie controlled diet. My starting weight was less than his too. Keto is just a pretentious name for a calorie controlled diet. Meat doesn't have a lot of calories. Biscuits do. So he just avoided high calorie foods and ate low calorie foods for a month. It's a bit of a scam pretending that it is something different from a low calorie diet. Just do what I did and get one of those apps that count your calories. Don't eat any biscuits or cake otherwise you will starve. Eat meat because it has low calories. Eat anything you want as long as it is not too dense in calories. It's much better than this diet.

Best thing about Keto is it takes you off of sugars and make you aware of just how much sugar is in everything. I wish Dr Mike had a way to track if he was still in keto like the pee strips or a blood sugar meter.

When I did Keto, I added in a few more restrictions and I'm not sure how much credit I can give to those additional factors but they go as follows.. The 5% carbs couldn't come from from refined sugar, and not all at once I did Intermittent Fasting, 18/6 roughly Avoided artificial sweeteners Avoided alternate versions of foods that normally wouldn't be keto (bread, cookies, chips, pizza, etc, but made with "keto approved" ingredients) Pretty much avoided anything marketed towards keto, I was very skeptical and did a lot of research into specifics of everything I purchased and ate Tried to eat home made, natural, unprocessed food whenever possible When forced to eat out..lettuce wrapped beef burgers with cheese and bacon, no sauces, extra lettuce. No diet sodas, only water with lemon Tried not to rely on dairy too much for my macro nutrients, rather have more nuts, for me it was pecans Tried to get in as many vegetables as I could stomach with my meals I did not restrict calories, my goal was never weight loss, it was to combat the inflammation in my joints. I basically ate as much as I reasonably could, during my window, while maintaining the ratio and getting in as much nutrients as possible. I lost about 12% of my body weight in the first 3 months and while I couldn't sustain the diet due to social and financial constraints, it was the best 3 months of my life, and the weight stayed off even after a year of not being on the diet. Notable difference from this video, for me, is that instead of getting hungrier and craving, those became less and less the longer I was on the diet. The mental clarity was not debatable, it was huge, as was the drop in inflammation. I also had more energy, at any given time, than I had normally. Unfortunately as one of the cons, said energy depleted much faster and took longer to restore, like in the video. A second con, for me living in northern Canada, I was much more susceptible to the cold weather while on keto, my body didn't run hot anymore but that was awful in the winter.

For me being tired while exercising didn't matter because I'm mostly paralysed in a wheelchair and can not exercise. This is the only time I'm losing weight. And I find I actually have more energy. My joints don't hurt as bad and my sugars stabilized. My Doctor is so impressed and surprised.

Any diet will work, as long as you stick to it. Biggest down fall of anyone going on a diet is going on one that doesn’t allow them to enjoy the diet. You should be ‘suffereing’ but finding a diet that can be long term is key.

I tried vegan and posceterian diet, which it gave me deficiency of vitamin B12 and D3. The side effects came with insomnia, anxiety, pins and needles throughout my body. I gave it a shot for five months. I got off it and went back to eating meat. Still eat vegan based meals with steak, chicken, and salmon, but no side effects as of yet. Now, it’s time to go keto.

I'm guessing someone who wanted more attention, because it seems like he probably spends nearly all of his time split between work, exercise, and KZbin. Most people don't like playing 4th fiddle in a relationship, though tbh there's probably plenty of thirsty people that would be happy to play 6th fiddle for Doctor Mike.

I did a modified version of Atkins (low fat, very high protein) for almost 3 years. I had to count calories. I later found out my sluggish metabolism was thyroid related. Like you, I could not do heavy exercise, and I learned that if I wanted to run in a race, I would have to carb load the night before.
