Fly Fishing with the Mayfly for Wild Brown Trout, it's easy......

The levels are dropping on the river at last and the warm weather meant I wanted to get back to fly fishing there. While there a mayfly hatch started so I had to use a mayfly pattern to enjoy the abundant fishing.......yeah right!

It’s been a tough season here as well - no real mayfly hatch. Only action I manage on last outing was using an ant bounced of the edge of logs. Thanks for bringing us along on your trip!

Hard luck Paul, very often goes like that with the Mayfly, it's a big bushy pattern and our rather modest trout just slash at the fly without taking it properly. Then the next time out they all stick and it seems easy! It's why we call it fishing not catching 👍 Last time out things were picking up a bit on our crediton streams in terms of rising fish, we might even get a bit of rain over the next few days. Keep up the good work.

I feel your pain! On my local river I found it easier and more successful to use a mayfly emerger type pattern - it's on a size #14 klinkhamer hook and I think it helps the fish take it more easily. Love the video

I’m too stubborn and I haven’t had a good mayfly session for a couple of years now, I love the aggressive takes. I’m hopefully going in the week and I’ll be using smaller flies. Thanks for watching as always!

good try Paul, we had a two day mayfly period and first day my best ever but now with terribly low water the only fly catching is a 16 Fly with darkish cdc and it's small fish of around 7in long, the bigger ones are on holiday lol. ATB Mike
